About this bottle

As with its American Dry Gin, North Carolina's Durham Distillery produces its Navy Strength in a two-step process. Botanicals such as Indian coriander, caraway, rosemary, cardamom, juniper and cassia are vapor-infused in a German pot still. Sweeter ingredients such as citrus and fig are individually vacuum-distilled at room temperature, then blended with the other base. The gin is bottled at 57% ABV,

Makes an ok gin and tonic but not my favorite. And not sure about this profile for a classic martini but perhaps better for a dirty martini or even a gibson. However with its showy mix of juniper and herbal characteristics it shines and over delivers in spades in a classic negroni. If you enjoy a gin that can hold its own to provide a potent, flavorful, and on point negroni, this is the one. For that alone, I will gladly stock this in my home bar. Give the negroni (or even a Last Word) a try and you will be rewarded.

Clear juniper and spice with a viscous mouthfeel that lingers with the spice aftertaste. Not overly hot straight up, but the extra alcohol punch is better in classic cocktails. Rated 4. Retasted this Feb 2021. Noticed more herbal spice notes, but juniper still pronounced. Rich and full mouthfeel, some heat, but very balanced for Navy strength which makes it great in cocktails. Bumping my rating up.

This navy-strength gin is a sipper. Juniper forward like that of a london dry, but at 57% ABV this navy-strength stands out. It provides a nice balance between heat and flavor complexity. With the cold distilled fig vodka the distillers add post run, it really brings out a balance. Best gin for a negroni.

Very spice forward with a striking flavor that made me think of an everything bagel, which probably sounds bad but I mean it as a compliment. It was different for sure. Good in tonic or with a splash of pinapple juice over ice.

Absolutely amazing! So much of a pleasant nose, awesome in a G&T.
