At first flavors you would expect with a rye and backend transfers to black licorice. Not bad at all but if you don't like vermouth you probably won't like it. As always had it neat
Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey Finished in Vermouth Barrels
About this bottle
Still using the same grain mash bill as their rye whiskey (80% rye, 15% malted barley, 5% malted rye), this is aged from 6-9 months in 15 gallon white oak quarter-casks. The whiskey is then transferred to barrels that previously aged California's Quady Vya Sweet Vermouth. It resides here for another 6 months before bottling.

Harsh any biting. Needed to tone it down with the addition of something sweet. I am a big fan of Vya Vermouth, so that is why i tried it. Should have checked the ratings first.
Nose was off putting, black licorice and bandaid. Tastes much better. Big notes of vermouth but not overwhelming. Very solid, first taste of dads hat
very rye-ish nose. floral and sweet. vermouth influence. smooth. sweet. this is fine neat, but I think this would be great in a cocktail. 7/6/18
N: Very light if any P: Very sweet before it hits that herbal note. Probably the vermouth, either way it's trash. F: Bitter and medicinal.
Sweet on the nose, wet leaves and light vanilla. Drinks smooth and the vermouth barrel finishing is evident. Spice up front and in back.
