About this bottle

This 14 year single malt is a permanent addition to The Dalmore's Principal Collection making it the 10th whisky in that portfolio. It's matured initially in American oak ex-bourbon casks. Then a parcel of that whisky is transferred to sherry casks, for around 2 years, including hand-selected Pedro Ximenez casks from the House of Gonzalez-Byass. This US exclusive will be available as of September 2022 nationwide.

I’m tearing my way through the Dalmore core range. Here is the newest member to the lineup. 14 years old, aged in PX sherry casks—the latter of which is a departure from their standard use of Olorosso if I remember correctly. Let’s get right into it. Nose: Cranberry, raisin, date, and fig. Apple, apricot, and pear. Cherry and cola. Black currant. Plum and orange citrus. Milk chocolate, toffee, and vanilla. Cocoa. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and oak. Palate: Plum, raisin, date, fig, and cranberry. Milk chocolate, vanilla, toffee, malt, and orange citrus. Gala apple and red grape. Some pound cake and some chocolate/vanilla ice cream cake. Pear and apricot appear a bit later. Butterscotch. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and oak. Finish: Plum, grape, gala apple, raisin, fig, and date. Butterscotch, caramel, milk chocolate. Pear. Cranberry. Black pepper, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and oak. Moderate length. This is a very strong addition to the Dalmore lineup. Between this, the 12, 12 SS, Port Wood, and the 15, I think this is the winner of the bunch. At $100, this is a fine deal. Pedro Ximinez is an interesting wrinkle in the Dalmore lineup, which typically features Olorosso. I like how it interacts with the spirit. A welcome addition to the core range. 4.5/5.

I am a Dalmore fan, that is not a mistery to anyone by now. I try to get every new release (if it is humanly affordable), and they seem to have heard the critics that said that Dalmore were releasing too many 40%abv expressions. That is why, this 14yo, Pedro Ximenez finesse is a great gesture by the "Stagg" Distillery, who has given us a 43.8%abv dram. Tawny color. On the nose, your classic beautiful Dalmore. Peachesn figs, dark chocolate. Rum and raisins, cotton candy and cappuccino. Very fruity with a typical Dalmore note of school glue. After the first sip, the aroma changed into marshmallow, honey and tobacco. Three milk cake. On the palate, nice full flavor. Sawdust, jam, cherries and red fruits overall. Marshmallows. Very winey with a sulphur gunpowder note. Aftertaste also offers a fully, complex sensation. Herbal, sawdust, hay, cinnamon and ginger. A dry finish, some tobacco and salty notes. A little bitter. Overall, i believe this is 85% similar to the Cigar Malt, which is my favorite of the core range, i believe it to be even better than the King Alexander III. If i make that statement, you can only get the conclusion that i really, really liked this one. A beautiful, very complex dram, my score for it is 92 over 100.

It's not often I get to kick off the reviews for a bottle. I have a Cigar Malt that I quite enjoy on the shelf at home amd when I saw this little gem sitting on the counter of my local shop I decided to give it a good home. Shall we see how it drinks? Of course... Nose is all fruit and honey. Honestly this smells delicious and I hope it is not a tease on the palate. First sip has a lot going on. The intial notes are honey almond, but there is a quick burn onset. Not harsh, but a bit more than I expected. Then the fruit just explodes. Red berries at first trailing of to touches of raisin on the finish. This almost drinks more like a Port finish than Sherry. The downside here is that once you get through your first sips the fruity tail seems to linger and the honey notes of the first contact seem to get a bit lost. Overall this is a very nice fruit forward offering. At the price point it is defintely worth a pick up. It may not be earth shattering, but it is a nice age with an excellent finishing touch. Now it seems I need to pick up a Port finish to see how it compares.

Gifted this bottle but it seems to be a decent value for a 14yr of this quality. Nose is soft and sweet berry compote and tangerine with a drop of Aunt Jemima sitting on a freshly lacquered bench. There are some malt notes in the background if you search. Palate is rich and creamy with good depth. Maple candies melted down into black raspberry and orange marmalade lead the way. Figs/dates add support with a nice helping of leather and oak. Baking spices accumulate throughout the pour. Finish fades the dark fruit with walnut shells fringing on bitter. Just a touch of peat on the back end alongside a trailing maltiness. This is a step up from the 12yr and is very enjoyable. Flavors are flattened out and darker than many sherry finished scotches which can be bright. I would probably take Glendro 15 over this in price range but this is a worthy contender especially if you are a Dalmore fan..........89/100......just short of vaunted 4 star for me but worth a repurchase under $95

A complex, Single Malt by Master Whisky Maker & Blender Gregg Glass for Dalmore Disitllery in in Highlands, Scotland aged for 2 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels & Pedro Ximenez casks; after which they are reunited & aged for an additional 12 years. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grain, wood, herbs & spices; while a delicate life adds notes of soft vanilla, toffee, warm honey, dates, fig & Seville orange zest; that led to a complex death of medium length with notes of chocolate orange & maple. November 2022 / October 2023

The Dalmore 14 is currently my favorite of the Dalmore line. Its affordable, flavorful and easy for introducing friends to Highland Scotch. It has a strong nose with notes of cinnamon, raisin, and fig. On the palate, it hits with cherry, red grape, apple, and spice cloves. The finish is one of cranberry, butterscotch, and pepper. Additionally, it has great legs on the glass when doing a tasting which is always fun to watch.
