Lux Row Distillery has a history of bringing back the past. Like their Flagship Bourbon Blood Oath they have created magic again with their Daviess County Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This 96 proof offering brings back a heritage dating back to 1874. Daviss County Distillery paved the way for over a dozen other distilleries opening in Daviess County, Kentucky before Prohibition. Lux Row is honoring this rich history by reintroducing the unique blend used in the original bourbon. Two mashbills make up this rather tasty offering. To bring the smooth and the sweet they use a wheated mashbill, and to bring the spice they use a rye mashbill. Combined they bring a quite interesting taste from the past into your glass. Nose: The nose is mild and has a nice earthy sweet corn, cinnamon, and a hint of orange zest at the end. Pallet: The cinnamon is nice and warm up front leading to the smooth mild spice of rye and Honey. It is just oily enough for the flavors to grab the tongue and be a constant reminder of what you just experienced. The Finish is nice and sweet tapering off to a mild cigar smoke. If the 96 proof hits you a little hard just add a few drops of water and the nose becomes softer and the pallet less oily and even smoother. Try it both ways and find which you prefer. #CorkandKeg #BourbonLife #BSandBourbon

Open 4 months Nose - Cereal grain, mint, butterscotch, orange peel, light baking spices, light oak and ethanol. Palate - Peanut brittle, butterscotch, rye spice, watery honey. Finish is medium-short with little change in flavor from front palate. Minimal hint of ethanol, despite it being 96 proof. I think this is a waste of your money. It tastes like leftover Elijah Craig watered down with Rebel 80, which is odd because it is higher proof than both of those. You'll be much more satisfied saving $10 and buying Elijah Craig or saving $20 and buying Rebel 100. Lux Row is hit or miss for me at this point, I enjoy Rebel and Ezra Brooks but think David Nicholson and this are mediocre. It's tough when I can directly compare with the respective Heaven Hill product and conclude Lux Row did a bad job with this one.
Aroma hits with a strong HH vibe and is a nicely balanced delivery of rustic oaky, leathery and darkly sweet notes with some bolder peanut butter and cocoa notes that rise as it opens – a touch of coppery spice adds dimension; Palate starts kind of… meh, but as it opens the spice creeps up over time as do the oak and sweet notes; Finish might be the best aspect with a solid spicy oaky fade.
Nose- I’m getting some maple syrup and caramel apple notes. Palate- I found it to have a sweet flavor, almost like toffee. It had an oily aspect to it as well. The sharpness took a lot out of it though in my opinion. It’s not something that blew my mind. It’s an okay sipping bourbon but tastes like a bourbon that more or less belongs in a coke.
This has a brilliant, clear, amber appearance. The aroma is of candied corn and assorted other grains. The flavor is of the candy corn, with rye spice. The body is medium, and it finishes smooth and bold, but not biting. RJT
You can tell it doesn’t have too much age on it. With that in mind, it is decent. Green apple. Caramel and vanilla. Overall this whiskey doesn’t drink “hot” at all. Incredibly light overall. Quite nice for under $35.
