I have to admit I'm not the biggest white whiskey fan. I don't have many bottles and the one's I do have I use for cocktails only. Death's Door white whiskey is one of the few that I've seen in multiple stores, so I figured it must be one of the better one's out there. The nose is a bit uninspiring, with a bit of malt and rye bread. The palate is decent enough, nothing to write home about, but it has a touch of vanilla and pepper and is semi-oily. The finish has some anise and a bit of sweetness. I was expecting more burn, but there was little there. Overall, I'm surprised at how poorly this is reviewed. Taking it for what it is, I think it's a pretty decent white whiskey. It obviously is nowhere near as good as normal aged whiskies, but for the category it seems fine enough. I probably still wouldn't try this neat again, too many better things out there, but it seems to hold up well in the few cocktails that do call for white whiskey.
About this bottle
This is produced using two types of organic hard, red winter wheat all grown on Washington Island, Wisconsin, (Harvard and Carlisle), and organic barley sourced from Chilton, Wisconsin. It is rested for a brief time in stainless steel then ages in used, un-charred oak for 72 hours. Death's Door gets its name from the body of water between Wisconsin and Washington Island, which the French tradesmen termed as the "Ports de Mort" to dissuade others from using it.

I had this in a cocktail, which is probably the only way to survive a good white dog. It tried ever so hard to punch me in the teeth but, luckily, I had protection from a decent sweet vermouth and an absurd number of cherries. It was floral, otherwise, and dainty to smell. But in no way was it that nice otherwise. It'll sucker punch you. And some days, that's exactly what you need.
Blech. I'd wanted to try this for years, and was was sorely disappointed. I enjoy white whiskies, but this was sour, hot and unpleasant. It's certainly no Troy and Sons Platinum.
Personally I did not enjoy it at all. I love strong drinks and whiskies, but this almost made me spit it out when I first tasted it. Not my type of whisky
Should have looked it up before ordering. Did not realize it was a white whiskey. Would probably mix well, but not a sipper.
Not good. May improve in a cocktail but somehow I doubt it.
