Nose: full, full-bodied, with raisins and sherry. Difficult to find a blended with so much character on the nose! Palate: they are right to say that it is velvety. It is incredibly velvety and silky! So much that it seems to have 40% instead of 46%! It slips down like a wonder, you eat it more than drink it…. Raisins and sherry, flower honey, with light smoke of embers and peat. A particular process for a particular whiskey. Final: very short, but perfectly balanced and velvety. Read how this whisky is made, it deserves. It is amazing. Rating 5.00 _________________________________________________________ Naso: pieno, corposo, all’uvetta e allo sherry. Voto 5,00
About this bottle
Dewar's Double Double 27 Year is a blended scotch crafted by master blender Stephanie Macleod which is aged in a "four stage aging process." The first step involves single malts and single grains which have been aged separately at least 27 years. Next, the single malts are blended together and rested in exhausted casks. This process is also done for the single grains. Then, the blended single malts and blended single grains are blended together and again rested in exhausted casks. Finally, the blended scotch finishes its maturation in sherry casks. For the 27 year, it is finished in ex-Palo Cortado sherry.

The nose is smooth with creamy vanilla, along with a subtle burst of white pepper. Oak, straw and a little barley sugar sweetness rounded out. The intensity that is present is a clear indicator that this is well aged. If you could wrap up all the notes you'd want to find any blended Scotch, it would be this. The palate is gentle as it fills the mouth with creamy oak and vanilla, straw, touches of smoke and honey, and just enough sweetness to balance it out. There's a nice depth to what is going on here, making it quite enjoyable for what it is. The finish is medium long and chewy, with a subtle lingering pepperiness, as well as notes of oak and straw that coat the mouth and slowly fade. This is a great and affordable expression for a well aged scotch, delivering on a variety of fronts. It may not be complex, but what you do get is rich in deep and absolutely enjoyable.
So this is pricey for sure. $110 for a 375 ml bottle. At this price it should be liquid gold. First sense on the nose is really nice caramel and dried fruit. The taste does not quite live up to the nose or the price. It is definitely an incredibly smooth Scotch. The characteristic smoke is softly rounded out and the burn is slow and low. I will say this is probably the nicest bottle of Scotch I will ever buy, but not sure I would splurge on it again.
People raved about the 18, 21 and 25 year. I honestly don’t think any of them were worth a damn minus the exception of this 27 year. It is a great pour well worth the $50 tag for a 375ml. However if you’ve got coin to spend and you want something phenomenal in the 20 year plus category of single malt and blended scotch , there are loads of better options to pick up before I recommend this.
This has one of the best finishes on a Scotch I've ever had, super smooth, wish the finish lasted longer! Priced accordingly for a 27 yr, even at half bottle. Higher abv was definitely a plus for me. More enjoyable than the Macallan Rare cask
Deliciously smooth with excellent oak notes.
