About this bottle

Don Fulano Añejo Imperial is the oldest tequila in the brand's product line. Although distilled in the Tequila Valley (Lowlands) at La Tequileña distillery (NOM 1146), the 100% estate-grown blue agave used is harvested from the Los Altos (Highlands) region of Jalisco, Mexico. After distillation, this (extra) añejo spends 5 years aging in new French oak.

Wow. Very smooth with charred wood, almonds, raisins, pecans, peat, cooked agave, caramel, cherries, coffee, vanilla, maple syrup, and chocolate flavors. Where bourbon, rum, and brandy meet with tequila. Shows how wood and agave can coexist without wood dominating. Nom 1146 could be the best tequila distillery in the world producing arte nom 1146, tears of llorona, t1, asombroso in the past, Fuenteseca, and this

Picked this up because I wanted something to compare to Tears. Nose is pleasant, hints of custard and almond. Get some similar gingerbread notes on the palate, but compared to Tears, a little more herbal, less fruity, and slightly rougher around the edges. It's pretty nice, but expensive enough that you might as well buy Tears if available. Haven't gone wrong with anything from 1146 yet.

An Extra Anjeo Agave Spirit from Don Fulano, in Mexico which has been matured in French oak casks for 5 years before it is bottled. It has an aromatic birth with notes of agave, earth, wood, herbs & spices; while a rich & herbal life adds notes of caramel; that led to a long & complex death. May 2017

Don Fulano Imperial is one of the best anejo tequilas that I have ever tasted. Uncanny presence of agave for an extra aged spirit. Robust caramel, chocolate, pecans, and spices. The flavors are complex and the texture is velvety. The finish lingers beautifully with notes of oak, caramel, and agave.
