About this bottle

Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon is one of the flagship products from Buffalo Trace Distillery. It is made from a low-rye mash bill and is aged for at least 10 years at the Kentucky distillery. The barrels are hand selected for quality and consistency before bottling. While the bottling proof was originally 101 when the brand was first released in 1974, it has been bottled at 90 proof since 2005.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - the slogan of Eagle Rare has almost become a mockery in these days, but that is not their fault. A flawless bourbon nose awaits, think of ripe oranges, honey and gingerbread, rounded off by caramel, toasted oak and sage. Great balance. The palate veers towards vanilla cream, treacle and rich wood spices before it turns zesty, herbal and slightly dry. Cinnamon, rock candy and a touch of bubble gum subside in the medium-length finish. This American classic hits the sweet spot, it is one of my go-to bourbons. I tasted this one at a party. A friend of mine offered to open and it was a very sweet experience. The nose is rich in vanilla, caramel, hints of apple that i could gather and maybe cherry. I didn’t have a proper glass for the nose. On the palate, its very rich and creamy with vanilla, caramel and there’s a little of a spice note there like a sweet anise, but it’s so sweet that i couldn’t figure out what the other tastes were. Overall, for a low rye mash, it delivers the sweetness and it’s not too hot. But it misses more complex variety of flavors. Cheers!

Picked up a half sized bottle locally for $30 in 2024 and enjoying it quite a bit! Nose: cherries, caramel, light brown sugar. Hints of red delicious apples and a faint dusting of nutmeg. Palate: mellow, pleasant sweetness. Classic bouron notes of vanilla, mellow cinnamon, some apples. Pleasant finish warming with baking spices. Invites another sip. Slightly higher rating than before. Good but not incredible.

Nose: Oak forward, spicy, citrusy and caramel, slightly sharp Palate: Sweet and spicy with notes of honey, apples, oranges, cinnamon and vanilla, fairly oaky, reminds me a bit of apple pie Finish: Fairly lengthy but not aggressive, baking spices, vanilla and woodiness linger for quite a bit Overall: A fairly beginner friendly bourbon but decent depth to it and very enjoyable, excellent value for money.

Smell is higher proof than it is, cinnamon, and a bit of sweetness. Initial flavor is malty vanilla, and a bit oily in the tongue. Theres a sweetness to it and then a warming to the end. A bit of honeysuckle. Its a good profile, and tastes nice and complex. Tasty!
