Haven't had too many of these, but there seems to be quite a bit of variation. Barrel 154 (12.20.90) was excellent, barrel 21 (10.31.90) was an astringent, bitter, watery mess.
Elijah Craig 21 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
About this bottle
The Elijah Craig Single Barrel offerings are really starting to reveal what is possible in the golden years of Bourbon. The Elijah Craig Limited Edition 21 Year Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey pays homage to Craig’s unique legacy of being the first person to mature bourbon in charred, oak casks, earning him the title “Father of Bourbon Whiskey.” This whiskey has rested in new, charred American oak, for at least 21 years before being bottled at 90 proof in this celebratory expression.

Nose of pungent black sharpie and pencil shavings. Palette is confusing and bitter and pungent. Absolutely pails in comparison to the magnificent 18 year.
Yum. Would equate to 91 pts, moderate spice and mild peat, short finish, mild vanilla undertone.
over oaked, but still tasty. The Whiskey Fort Collins for the price of the 18 year
Caramel, leather, oak, hint of berry
I would actually put this 3.5 stars
