About this bottle

Only available overseas and at the Heaven Hill Distillery gift shop in Kentucky, this 12 year-old Evan Williams is 101 proof. For many years, this marque was an export-only bourbon, and only recently did this become available at the gift shop. While this bourbon is hard to find, it is worth seeking out during your next trip to Kentucky or overseas.

I’ve heard of this one but never had the opportunity to try it. Being a Heaven Hill fan, I was happy to be sent a sample of this one. This particular bottle was the Japanese export, but I know you can also pick it up at the distillery. The nose is sweet with vanilla icing, toasted pecans, sweet corn, caramelized red apples and caramel. There is also some dusty grain, baking spices and baked bread. The palate is sweet and quite oily with bitter oak, a nuttiness, sweet corn, dried fruit and some spices The finish is long with an initial spike of baking spices then corn and dried fruit and then eventually to some bitter oak. Then after a while you get some nice lingering barrel char floating around on the cheeks and tongue. This is by far my favorite of all of the Evan Williams line. Now I need to get a bottle!

Nose - Caramel, oak, peanuts, vanilla Taste - Caramel, vanilla, oak, hint of cinnamon Finish - Caramel, vanilla, oak, light cinnamon heat/spice Score - 75/100 Final Thoughts - Yup, it's bourbon all right. This is very basic, inoffensive bourbon. Classic notes, nothing fancy, nothing too exciting. Nothing really wrong with it other than being a bit boring & what you'd think a bourbon might taste like. Drink it neat, drink it over ice, drink it with coke, all would be fine. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - No Would I buy a bottle? - Yes, if it was still $22 NOTE - All reviews are done without factoring in price.

A quite solid pour I would say the only thing that is lacking is a cork, which I will use one of my old /saved corks I am not a fan of twist off caps. I really can't say anything negative about this 12 year 101 proof classic An enticing nose The pallet has tremendous mouth feel The finish is full-bodied and lingers in a pleasant way I would say a drinks a little bit hotter but not in a bad way then the 101 proof that it said to be.

Nose: typical Heaven Hill dusty candied corn nose Taste: lots of cinnamon and peppercorn Finish: medium At $130 in the Louisville Evan Williams Experience tour gift shop, this isn’t any better than most Knob Creek store picks or their 12-year, and those are quite a bit cheaper and easier to find. I wouldn’t seek this out unless you’re a diehard HH/Evan Williams fan. To me, the EW Single Barrel is a tremendously better value.

Bourbon is so subjective to the palate! For me this is my current all time favortive. I’d pay $150 over and over again! The bold cinnamon and sugar cookie notes hit just right! Snickerdoodle cookies in a bottle! Come on… does it get much better?

Nose: Strong dark cherries with a lot of oak and cinnamon with other spices Pallete: Dark cherries with white pepper spice moving into strong oak Finish: Moderate finish of spices and oak with a soft general sweetness of vanilla and caramel
