Bryan Small 4.0

Nose: Pretty simple. Vanilla and oak. I got a light hint of butterscotch from the neck pour, but it quickly faded away to the oak. Palate: Vanilla and brown sugar. Relatively sweet palate. Not overly rich or sweet like other members of the double oak family. Finish: Light vanilla and oak fade to a pleasant heat and warmth. A touch of black pepper on the tongue with a nice mouthfeel. Thoughts: Simple. You know what you’re getting. Nice supplement to the night cap or “dessert-esque” Double Oaks like Woodford or Old Forester.

An n intense, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey by Master Distiller Kevin Curtis for IJW Whiskey Company crafted with more than 40 different mash bills; aged in new, charred American oak barrels 2X. It has an aromatic birth with notes of wood, fruit, grain & spice; while a rich & full life adds notes of vanilla & dried fruits; that led to a complex & slightly creamy death of medium length with notes of butterscotch & toasted oak. Nose: Butterscotch, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Palate: Oak, leather, and pepper. Slight sweetness towards the finish. Medium/long finish. Overall: Big fan of the double oak when comparing to the KSBW and to other double oaked products. Great value and complex flavor. I would reccomend, especially at the $36.99 range.

On the nose I get a clear distinct arroma of cream soda. On first sip I get further cream soda and vanilla notes. The finish offers subtle oak an char with undertones of leather and pepper. Ice softens the peppery notes and keeps some of the complexities. Good offering and recommend if you can find it.

Drammaster 2.5

This is a straightforward whiskey. The double oak does add nice fruit and woody notes. It makes for a good mixer. It doesn’t have the depth of flavor I prefer for my straight pours.

Looneyhead 3.5

Nose of oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted marshmallow, pear, peppercorn, and char. Palate sweet, oak, vanilla, pepper, and caramel. Peppery finish.
