About this bottle

Each year, Four Roses releases a limited edition small batch that is selected by Master Distiller and Blender Brent Elliott, among barrels of different mash bill recipes, levels of maturity and proof. This year, the bourbon is composed of four different batch selections aged 12 to 16 years. These batches consist of 4 of the 10 distinct Four Roses bourbon recipes: a 16 year-old OBSV, 14 year-old OBSQ, 12 year-old OESK, and 16 year-old OESV. The bourbon is non-chill filtered and bottled at 114.2 proof. It is limited to 14,500 hand-numbered bottles as of September, 2021.

(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual American Whiskey Tasting, 05 February 2022). Nose: Fruit - stone fruit and berries, stewed apples, kirsch cherries. There are some floral hints notes and hints of charred oak Palate: Caramelised fruit, red berries, orange and orange zest. Sweet, vanilla and creamy. Concentrated and unctuous. Finish: Long finish. Leather, sweet dried fruit (cranberries), burnt sugar, dark chocolate berries. Icing sugar on the aftertaste. This is a cracker of a dram! Unctuous and luxurious, loads of interesting layers - heavy on the sweet fruit - but finishing on leather and oak. Great! 13% 16y/o OBSV 6% 14y/o OBSQ 23% 12y/o OESK 58% 16y/o OESV Came first out of the six drams, with 59% of the final vote for favourite of the night. 88% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky. This got my vote for the best of the evening and it was a runaway winner. Very tasty, although a bit on the expensive side.

Nose- This is what a liquid taffy apple smells like- it is green apple oozing with gooey caramel, all covered in nuts. It has an old timey bourbon smell to it, like a rickhouse in late October. In a word- splendid! Palate- the taffy apple carries forward with plenty of red fruit, caramel, and chewiness. But a milk chocolate note also kicks in. That sweetness is balanced by a bit of dry oak. The taste does not disappoint! Finish- long, warming, satisfying. Leaves you on a note of leather and cigar box. The perfect ending to a perfect bourbon! Overall- This is my bourbon of the year! The balance, the tastes, the depth, the traditionalism of bourbon is in this bottle. I could probably find flaw somewhere......but why???? This is a must have bottle.

Heavy, sweet oak, caramel covered cherries and raspberries, leather, sweet tobacco, and roasted coffee beans on the nose. It really gets deep inside the nose and gives the senses a great big bear hug. It’s really inviting. Great viscosity, love the way it coats the palate. Sweet tobacco starts up front followed by cinnamon, almond, leathery oak, tart red fruit, and some clove and black pepper. Vanilla extract and more oak show up on the finish that lasts. Not as impressive as the nose, but delicious nonetheless. It has a rich, decadent style that really blends well with the tart red fruit. A great example of balance. Worth the trip to Kentucky to pick it up.

Not overly impressed but decent as a cocktail Whiskey, not so much sipping for me. I'm not including much detail about flavor profiles, notes, and finish because as of right now, my Bourbon/Whiskey pallet is still pretty underdeveloped with more than 50 tracked tastings, but less than 100 as of 2022. (That's not all consumed, just all appreciated outside of shots and mixers)
