About this bottle

Retailers, restaurants, and bars get invited to taste and custom bottle their own personally selected bourbon barrel though the Private Barrel Program at Four Roses. Although the ABV and age statement varies for each bottling, this bourbon is always non-chill-filtered and bottled at cask strength. The mash bill recipe used here is Four Roses OBSF: 60% corn, 35% rye 5% malted barley and the herbal notes yeast strain.

Not sure if this is the exact bottle. I'm sipping a sample sent to me by Jake Gregory from the Slurred Speach blog over at Bourbon Sippers. His notes indicate 122 proof, OBSV, "Borrowed Brass" . I'm tasting this neat in a Glencairn after about 15 minutes rest. Just a beautiful polished mahogany coloring. Viscous sheeting and slow legs promise a rich mouthfeel. The nose is rich and subtle, with surprisingly little alcohol considering the proof. Ripe peach and carmelized sugar are my first impressions. Rich caramel and notes of black pepper and Red Hots candy jump out on the taste buds. There is a lot of barrel in the mid pallete. Oak and char, dry vanilla and cherries make up the body of the flavor profile. The finish is long, beautifully tapering to notes of menthol, a little pine resin and finally a slow, lingering capsacin-like warmth in the back of the throat and through the chest. There is just the slightest funkiness late in the taste curve that I can't quite identify. It might be one of those nights... but theres just the slightest bit of imbalance that keeps this from hitting a perfect 5 on my scale. The world has a lot of outstanding 4's, a lot less 4.5's and damned few over that. This is right there - truly superb. Wish I could get another!

This is an outstanding poor. I am a big fan of Elijah Craig barrel proof Releases, however, this really will beat most of then in blind tastings And I have done them. Not the easiest find but if you find one at MSRP around 85 or $90 pick it up every time. This particular offering which is one of their 10 offerings is outstanding. The high rye and floral notes really come through But not overpowering at all. It is extremely well balanced, and drinks lower than it’s 120 proof point this could stand up in most any blind, and do extremely well. I really have no strong criticisms of this. The only minor tick may be the finish is not quite as long, but that’s just nitpicking at this point.

Age:9 years, 3 months. ABV: 58.7 My dad picked this up for me on a trip to Wisconsin last summer. Dipped neat (Well, of course). Nose: floral, vanilla, caramel..a bit of granny Smith green apple. Palate: follows the nose. Really floral. Not as viscous as I had hoped. Finish: medium length. Nothing surprising. In the end, this was pretty solid. I still have not had a 4R that's blown me away. Am I just a Turkey freak who prefers that flavor profile? Perhaps. I enjoy these store picks, but the 4R picks don't even come close to good RRpicks imo.

Super tight nose, heavy alcohol boarder line Windex. After letting the pour sit a little while starting to get hints of cream soda / vanilla. The first sip yields a thin viscosity with most of the flavor notes hitting the front and back of the mouth. Cream soda with notes of sour apple and black cherry with sweet notes on the satisfying finish. However after half a dram the alcohol heat still comes in bright every time and while this is 114 proof there are other single barrels that are stronger and less continuously bright.

Binnys Pick 9 years 7 months 59.4% Warehouse RS Barrel 71-3L Aroma - massive amounts of chocolate, melted butter, rye definitely up front as well. Really nice balance here. Figs and plums coming through. And getting a slight hint of bubble gum. Taste - Whoa. That is quite different than the nose. Leather, tobacco, black tea, oak. All really bold flavors. Vanilla bean comes through on the finish. Really enjoy the transition from the bold on the front and the massive sweetness on the finish.

[5.24.24] These bottles are still a bit ot a puzzle to me so I was glad to be able to taste another from someone's collection. Capped off a great night but nothing stacks against our Russell's. Minty. At first I thought it was a myth but as you swallow and the flavors start to clear, it becomes more apparent. This a julep whiskey if there was ever one made. Easy to drink but it has one clear purpose - Derby Day.
