About this bottle

Retailers, restaurants, and bars get invited to taste and custom bottle their own personally selected bourbon barrel though the Private Barrel Program at Four Roses. Although the ABV and age statement varies for each bottling, this bourbon is always non-chill-filtered and bottled at cask strength. The mash bill recipe used here is Four Roses OESF: 75% corn, 20% rye 5% malted barley and the herbal notes yeast strain.

Conquering the #SundayScaries with a glass of Four Roses Bourbon Single Barrel. Out of Warehouse No. JW and Barrel No. 58-2J. This comes in at 100 Proof (50% ABV). No age statement. 60% Corn, 35% Rye, 5% Malted Barley. A light nose with hints of cork, dried raisins, vanilla, and fresh picked flowers. The palate has a heavy dose of rye spice immediately followed by honey, peaches, and subtle hints of brown sugar and light oak. What makes Four Roses single barrel unique over others is that Four Roses uses 10 different recipes for their blended bourbon. This means that they also have 10 different variations of single barrel recipes they can use for their Single Barrel product. Always bottled at 100 proof, part of the fun of the Four Roses Single Barrel line is trying each recipe and finding what you like.

Doing a competition between all recipes. Head to head with B versions VS E versions. Nose: wildflower honey on the nose for OESF. Somewhat sweet too but also very flowery. OBSF is a little bit sweeter to me on the nose. Black licorice for me. Palate: OESF: amazing palate. Sweet and thick. Also very hot initially (113.2 proof). Not super complex but very tasty. OBSF: little more tame on the palate and a bit more complex. Licorice on the palate too. Finish: OBSF: kind of a short finish. OESF: medium length finish. Overall: both very good picks and my first crack at a four roses barrel pick. To me the OESF wins just by a hair.

KC Area Hyvee Spring 2022 Pick, 10 yr 11 mo, 121 proof Nose is quite sweet with floral, cream of tartar, and rosemary notes. The palate is very interesting. At first herbaceous, as might be expected (F) with a sweet note. A touch of caramel as the herbaceousness fades, and pepper comes on strong toward the end. The finish is distinctly savory, though. Adding water was a negative, the sweetness was gone and left an ununified mishmash of various herbs and pepper.

8 years 9 months. Heritage, Denver pick. 118.2 proof. Absolutely delicious. Vanilla and fruits laced with candied nuts. This all leads way to a slightly bitter herbal and floral flavors. Long dry finish that has a perfect burn. 4 🌹 winning.

Nose: sweet peppermint candy. Bready. Palette: barrel char, floral, candied peacans, mint in the back end, vanilla, more char in the finish. Coats the tongue nicely.
