Sticky sweet plums, sweetened raisins, sultanas, buttery, blackberries, leather, creme brulee, and faint stewed vegetables on the nose leave little doubt of the sweet digestif character of this dram. In the palate, there's a full, creamy mouthfeel dominated by dark fruits, dark candi syrup, light roast coffee, butterscotch, and more leather. Here is where the whiskey shines and shows its uniqueness. The rice is not so pronounced in the flavor, but the transformation in the viscosity is dramatic. This is a thick, creamy whiskey! It's almost a syrup, coating and full-bodied. There's a drying sensation on the finish, which marries with baking spice and more dark fruit to leave a long, flavorful finish that allows just the right amount of warming to round this whisky out.

Single Cask Nation turned me on to Japanese rice whiskies with their Ohishi aged 7 years in a refill sherry hogshead, a sweet and unctuous experience I continued to chase after finishing that bottle. Other Ohishi expressions didn’t do it for me but this Fukano special release is the closest I’ve found to recapturing that special cask. The marriage of a sweet and complex finishing cask with the unsurpassed moutfeel of rice whisky is something ill always want on my shelf.
Was hesitant due to the Distillate being rice and being a whiskey. Absolutely delicious. Wonderful Sherry bomb. Full in flavor and filled with rich fruity notes. Pleasantly surprised. Not much spice or bite. Has a subtle funk in the finish after the sweet fruitiness has subsided, however enough to make it unpleasant, just noticeable. Will be looking for a bottle to purchase as I tried this in a bar.
Sherry, coffee and fruit. Great nose. Sticks around. Tastes like it smells which is a plus. Amazing deep rich color. Smooth but still with a little bite.
Sherry bomb is an accurate description. Heavy raisin/sherry nose with a little vanilla. Starts sweet and finishes with a little bit of heat.
Where are you Rich heavy fruit and long finish. I actually preferred the single cask, hi times more.
