About this bottle

Created by Felipe Camarena, G4 (four generations) is a tequila distilled at El Pandillo Distillery in Jesús María, Jalisco. The agaves are cooked in one of two stone ovens on site for 22 hours and crushed in a handmade metal tahona nicknamed "Felipestein". It is distilled in copper stills for both distillations. The water used to create the tequila is a 50/50 mix of collected rainwater and spring water. Their reposado is aged for six months in used bourbon barrels. Additive free.

This smells a bit more like a scotch than I expected. There is some orange on the nose and there is also floral, but it doesn't have that quintessential honey floral nose of Irish whiskey. It's somewhere between the two whiskeys, though it does have some tropical fruits and Earth of tequila. The palate has a lot of mint but also a lot of orange peel and sweetness. There is mint, but it isn't in the way. This is very much like scotch. What a surprise! Additional sips let more of the earth come in, but it kind of adds to that scotch body that I expect. There's some butterscotch that is really surprising at this age. There isn't an insane amount of complexity, but this is quite good. What an odd surprise. The vanilla and floral come out without making it taste like bourbon. It's sweet without being cloying and the richness is nice. It's really hard to believe that this is only 6 months old. The mint and tequila elements do eventually come through more, so it becomes tequila meets scotch. That little bit of smoke really sells the scotch element. It isn't a standout scotch or anything, but it is quite tasty. It's kind of weird though since it is so much like a scotch but there are better scotches and it's supposed to be a tequila. The apple elements are nice and I guess there is a bit of honey. Irish whiskeys, consider yourself on notice.

Neat. Visually clear, very pale straw with long legs. Nose is fruity agave with a nice smoke, oak, minerals, black pepper. slight vanilla and caramel doesn't cover up the bright aromas. Taste starts with cooked agave, citrus peel bitterness, black pepper, some minerality, hints of oak, and vanilla. Finish is moderately long and dry. Slightly sweet, but with plenty of citrus bitterness. Great example of an agave forward, lightly aged reposado

I'm bad at putting flavors into words, but suffice it to say this tequila is always on my shelf and it's a great value for the price. Agave is at the forefront, lots of other stuff behind it but nothing overpowering or out of balance. This is what I serve to people who want to sip tequila for the first time. I also think the repo is the best value in the series, brings lots of flavor with a little age, good balance between agave and barrel.

G4's profile just hits me in the feels. This is the best of the bunch. That minerality is masked a bit with a ton of baking spice, especially clove. Palate is loaded with typical G4 flavor profile but the addition of cinnamon and spice from the barrel not only take this over the top but adds to the mouthfeel. Close to perfect.

The barrel aging adds a very subtle hint of vanilla. Other than that, it retains a good amount of the character of the blanco base, including that slight pepper tang, though it’s softer and more bell pepper-like. I like it slightly more though, as the barrel softens some of the sharper edges of the blanco.

First uncorking 🍾 Let sit for about 5 minutes since the bottle was frozen 👀: Light ochre and legs stuck to the walls in chunks; 👃: Agave and cube sugar abound; vegetal; some vanilla; 👅: Some spicy notes; sweetness at the end; vanilla; 🏁: Finish isn't that long; pineapple is detected; great finish!
