About this bottle
The Glen Garioch portfolio is diverse, including aged expressions as well as a range of vintages, and typically offered at a robust cask strength. Glen Garioch's Vintage 1995 fits that profile, bottled in 2012 at 55.3% ABV. It has been aged in 1st fill ex-bourbon casks, and marks a notable change in the Highland distillery's direction -- Glen Garioch's Vintage 1995 was the last for which they used peat to smoke their barley.

An absolute gem and one of my top 5. Rich mouthfeel due to cask strength but not hot. Official tasting notes have a lot of breakfast terms like pancakes and syrup which are not wrong but missing the great peat kick at the end that provides character. Complex and layered but accessibl. Glad I got two bottles.
- Nose // sweet spice - ginger, vanilla/toffee/caramel, apple/pear, apricot, nutty - Palate // caramel/vanilla, spice, licorice, fruit - apple/apricot - Finish // tiniest hint of smoke, oaky, caramel/vanilla, maybe apple?, pepper This got better and better as it was allowed to sit and open up
Still having trouble distinguishing between peaty and smokey. It says lightly peated but seems just tasty to me. Pancakes filled with layers of baked bananas and toffee sauce???? Who writes this stuff on the label? I just taste strong alcohol content and really nice flavour....
Ripe melon, toffee, and oak on the nose. Medium bodied, with grapefruit, papaya, guava, licorice, and baking spices on the palate. The finish is spicy, citric and of medium length. Complex, tasty and worth trying.
Orchard fruits on the nose, a numbing and tingling sensation in the palate with an extended fruit finish. Wow! Pretty enjoyable.
