About this bottle

Released November 2017, Peated Virgin Oak Finish is one of four single malts in the Wood Finish Collection, the first wood finish bottlings in the distillery's history. All four no-age statement single malts age first in first-fill American oak barrels. The whisky then transfers to their respective casks for up to two years, virgin American oak for this release. Glenglassaugh Distillery reopened in 2008 after being mothballed for over 20 years. Each is bottled at 46% ABV.

I bought a sample of this from a fellow whisky lover. The first wiff was full of cotton candy amd vanilla and some not too rough peatsmoke, to refence it to something you have already tried: its far less agressive then a Laphroaig 10. The palate i cant quite grasp. Its some kind of nutty-vanilla taste. I cant decide if the spiciness is from the flavor or just the alcohol burning my tounge a little, since this is a NAS there could be younger whisky in there which will be a little more harsh. In taste it is like less vanilla-y candy-ish that you would expect from the nose, and there is no brine/salt/seaweed taste (which i do like btw). It is more of a gentle oaky peaty taste. Finish kinda the same as the palate, but creamy sweet. Quite nice i have to say

On nose heavy oak, peat and salt hits you at first, like salty peanut but then immediatly comes out some cotton candy too On the palate it is kinda medicinal for me, a lot like Laphroaig but its a little more zesty and spiky The finish is bitter oak, peat just a little sweetness. Very nice
