NOSE Sugary sherry, citrus, copper, leather, toasted graham, vanilla and nuts with some dried fruit. The PX notes aren’t subtle or shy here, they’re right upfront. PALATE Inky, sticky, sweet sherry, dry fruit leather, malt, vanilla cupcakes with orange frosting, roasted nuts and a bit of baking spice. A powerful palate that delivers a LOT of PX sherry influence. FINISH Med-long -> Sherry, roasted nuts, char, toasted graham and some metallic citrus on the fade.
About this bottle
Dr. Bill Lumsden, Head of Distilling and Whisky Creation for Glenmorangie, has begun a cask and whisky revolution throughout Scotland, with more whiskies eschewing using only standard bourbon barrels for aging. One of Lumsden’s key creations was Sonnalta (Gaelic for "Generous"), which is finished in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, the first Private Edition Range bottling. Released first in 2009 for Travel Retail, it was shortly thereafter made available worldwide, though now a bit more difficult to find.

This was an experience! Tasted it from a bar, not realizing how rear and expencive it was. Tasted it and it blowned my mine. Pretty kew to the whiskey scene, but tasting this will be my favorite moment for along time!
