I love Glenmorangie selections and typically find them fruit heavy and delicate. This Cadboll Estate batch 2 is a surprising and interesting departure. Throughout the majority of the taste there is a bit of spicy heat. Not an herbaceous or alcohol type heat but the type of heat that makes your mouth and inside of your cheeks tingle a bit. It isn't unpleasant. The initial taste is very sweet, as you'd expect from ex-bourbon casks. It tastes of creamy vanilla going down and leaves a lasting aftertaste that reminds me a bit of a Werther's original. It's not bad. Given how limited these Caboll releases are, its well worth it to buy a bottle yourself to try.

Nose is sweet vanilla, cinnamon and baking spices. Once it rests, stone fruits start to come through. The nose is more rounded than typical Glenmorangie The palate stays true to the baking spices especially nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. There’s some sweet short bread, caramel and brown sugar as well The finish was surprisingly long and creamy with an oily almost buttery mouth feel at the end To me this was a departure from Glenmorangie’s signature notes and brightness. The age even seems longer than the stated 15 years. Reminds me of a well aged Irish whisky but with a more potent finish!

Color: is a straw to a light Caramel color Nose: The initial aroma hits with vanilla and sherry, dark fruits with an oak note. Dates, figs and honey. Pallet: a surprisingly viscous mouth feel. It’s mouth coating with vanilla, oak, and cherry almonds. The middle brings a light white pepper spice along with brown spices. The finish is medium with a honey vanilla after taste. A splash of water opens up some more floral notes as really brings the vanilla to the front. Over all a beautiful whisky very velvety and mouth coating and mouth watering. Easy sipping neat or with a cube.

A creamy, Single Malt Scotch by Dr. Bill Lumsden for Glenmorangie Distillery in Highland, Scotland made with barley from the Cadboll Estate; aged in first-fill American White Oak ex-Bourbon casks. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grain, wood, citrus, stone fruits, flowers & spices; while a rich & full life adds notes of orange, creamy vanilla candy, honeyed apricots, jasmine, heather, poached pears, lemon, cinnamon & ginger; that led to a long & silky death with notes of toasted oak & eucalyptus. A- light gold N-vanilla, flowers, stone fruit, apple cider. A tame light woodyness. T- begins with a smokey apple cider note, some white pepper followed by light earthy stone fruit, honey, finishes with a sweet wood flavor combined with a fruity honey and a tinge of vanilla. O- starts juicy and sweet. Middle is dry and sofisticated the oak shines in the middle. The finish is inciting after the dryer middle, the finish is sweet and sticky. Begging for another taste. Lingering citrus is delicious.

The nose and initial palate are pretty much spot on the tasting notes I think. Little light and fruity with some creaminess. Where it falls off for me is something in the finish... It has this white wine flavor at the end that just doesn't do it for me. I'm going to revisit it and make sure my taste buds weren't going crazy that evening.
