About this bottle

The oldest member of Glenmorangie's "Extra-Matured" range, The Quarter Century showcases the highly-respected wood program under Bill Lumsden's stewardship at the Glenmorangie Distillery. The whisky is a blend of single malts that have spent twenty-five years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels sourced from the American Ozarks, ex-red wine casks from Burgundy, France, and ex-Oloroso sherry Spanish oak.

NOSE Dried orchard fruit, sultanas, oak, sugar cookies, baking spice, Honey Nut Cheerios, dark honey and light herbal and raisiny notes. In an odd way, it’s refreshing. It’s light, but not spineless, it’s fresh but oaky, it’s… kinda odd. Good, but odd. PALATE Dried orchard fruit, dark honey, dried dark fruit, raisiny sweetness, roasted nuts, baking spice, pastries and a slight herbalness. The palate seems to lighten up compared to the aroma, but it’s still good. Delicious even. FINISH Medium-short -> Dried orchard fruit, oak and baking spice with a light pastry sweetness.

Definitely a quality drop. As people have noted, apple pear and honey are the predominant flavours. It's quite a gentle dram quite wispy and elegant. Balance is good. It's not a dram that blows you away though, the aftertaste is faint, short with slight tongue tingling bitterness although that mellows as you get into the dram. Definitely not worth the money for a bottle but then again I personally often find that the case with a number of the very older drams I've had.

A nice whisky, but Glenmo shines in its younger expressions, I think. The gentle spirit produced by the distillery's infamously tall stills is well matched with cask influence at 10-14 years. At 25 years, the whisky becomes an oak bomb. While a pleasant oak bomb, I'd rather buy several bottles of the Quinta Ruban or Nectar D'Or than one bottle of 25.

Liquid gold, at least in the sense that it almost costs as much! The taste is very pleasant, clearly well developed and complex. To my amateur palate it was clearly high quality and very tasty, but i would struggle to justify the £1000 proce point. Nice box though!
