Don't be dismayed by the David Beckham commercials, as grain whiskys go, it is not bad, light, friendly on ice, but still very flavorful and distinctive. Enjoyed it more then I thought I would. (Have tried Teeling Irish Single Grain, Nikka Coffey Grain, Loch Lomond single grain)
About this bottle
Released in August 2016, this is the first permanent line extension for the Haig Club Single Grain range. The single grain whisky is aged in barrels which formerly held bourbon. The whisky is designed to be mixed. The inspiration for the name can be found in advertising materials dating back to the 1920s, in which Haig was advertised as "The Clubman's Whisky".

I picked this up as my usual blend was out of stock, this caught my eye and I gave it a try. Really impressed, strong alcoholic tones on the nose, but a mild vanilla taste on the palette. I use this for my whisky cocktails, mainly in an old fashioned, sour, or a Manhattan.
The Clubman is a whiskey purposely made for mixing with cola. Unfortunately I didn’t know that until after I purchased. It is very difficult to drink straight.
This tastes more like spiced rum than whisky, it's that light. It's fitting David Beckham advertised this as it's about as full bodied as his voice.
My first ever whiskey and it was class, still is class and will always be a go to of mine. With ice or without its fantastic.
