I just realized that I never reviewed this Cognac, despite there being relatively few of them. Pear, white grape, and apple on the nose, but obfuscated by intense alcohol (new bottle). The palate is more of the same, except that the apple becomes applesauce with plenty of cinnamon, and the pear becomes decidedly d'Anjou. Sweet tea fades into the finish with a hint of white peach. Besides being a simple and sweet Cognac to herald the warmer months, it is also the second best that I've found for mixing with Benedictine (Courvoisier is 1st), which only adds to its value.
About this bottle
Hennessy Black is a blend of 45 different eaux-de-vie. After blending, it's aged in French oak barrels that were previously used. Don't let the name fool you, the bottle is black but the cognac itself is a light gold.

The nose is pungent and fruity. The pallette is warm and oily with a hint of honey. The oily notes linger in the finish with some additional bitterness and a slight fire in the belly.
Brother brought this for Christmas Eve. Nice and smooth, with noticeable citrus notes. Otherwise typical vanilla and oak flavors.
Fruity but not too much, very smooth on the palate. Lingering citrus and slight oak and spice last long. Very nice.
No flavor. Not smooth at all. Marginally drinkable diluted with ice. Go buy Remy 1738 for the same price.
Lighter and crisper than the VS but not as smooth as the Pure White. Still solid though.
