High Coast Älv

Nose: First impression is fresh, fizzy almost! More than a touch of lemons. This is followed by vanilla, melted butter and various floral notes that can be twisted and turned as you nose it. Very delicate, but still quite intense somehow! Palate: Sponge cake, drained in melted butter and vanilla, without being too sweet. This is really good. Some minor bitterness, but not to the point that it’s disturbing. It packs much more taste than your average young un-peated whisky. Really great! Finish: Medium in length. More vanilla, very pure. After a while there’s just a hint of white chocholate. Not quite on par with the nose and the palate, but still good. Overall: An excellent execution of a young burbon-cask matured whisky, evident of a competent destillate and the balls to let it show. The result is a delicate, yet rich and vibrant whisky. I score it 4.0 which is the mark of a great whisky (though in the lower end of great).

Nose: Light vanilla notes, oak, a little berry. Mouth: Vinous, yeasty, possible autumn apple, yellow overripe pears. Somewhat thin and boozy but quite peppery, which gives a nice balance. Sweetness reminiscent of pure white dog. Finish: Light oak, slightly bitter and spirity. Not great fun but works. Overall: A dram I think does better in the lighter months of summer. An alternative that I think is reminiscent of this is Teeling Rum Cask.

Subtila dofter av vanilj och skumbanan. Lätt spritig. Smakar bättre än vad den luktar. Len utan att sticka ut. Lite tråkig och absolut inte prisvärd. Dock helt okej instegsdricka. Lätta smaker av vanilj och gröna äpplen.

This is a great whisky, vanilla notes all over the place. Total vanilla and fruit bomb. Apples and pears, light palate with no smoke at all. Nice bourbon-matured whisky

Apple and vanilla on the scent and flavor as well. A bit harsh all around but the strong peppery vanilla makes up for it.
