Very Christmasy on the nose, fresh leather and spice. Plenty of proof behind it too. First sip was very piney and spicy. The palate evolves into oaky brown sugar, cola, and nutmeg primarily. Everything is turned up to 10. The mouthfeel is a little oily, leading to a long herbal finish. The proof and rye bitterness hit a little hard in the middle of the development, which to me is a minus, but not a huge one. Would I buy it at retail? Probably. Would I shell out for it? No.
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 4 (All Scenes)
About this bottle
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram is an annual limited edition release featuring the brand's Rendezvous Rye (a blend of straight rye whiskeys). After blending, the whiskey is then finished in French oak and ex-port barrels. It's bottled without chill-filtration at 98.6 proof. The name is a take off of Shakespeare's famous play, A Midsummer Night's Dream. This is a seasonal release with different year releases listed as different acts. The scenes are just different bottling days. Act 4 was released in 2016.
