About this bottle

Following its debut in November 2022, High West has re-released The Prisoner's Share — a limited edition release made collaboration with the The Prisoner Wine Company. Like the first release, this is made with blend of straight rye and bourbon whiskeys followed by a finishing in The Prisoner Red Blend wine barrels. A nationwide rollout begins November 2023 and bottles will also be available at the brand’s Utah distillery and Saloon locations. (SRP $174.99)

My favorite offering from High West- a blended Whiskey similar to a midwinters night dram, put finished in port casks. Sweet and smooth with notes of dried Fruit. Quality that High West has come to be known for. If you see this on the shelf dont pass it by.

Even though it’s a blend of bourbon and rye, the rye comes through. There’s a lot of baking spice on the palate that morphs into the red fruit flavors from the wine casks. The finish isnt as long as I’d like, but it’s pretty much a pleasant fruitiness.

Nose - Dark fruit, berries, dark grapes, clean wood and dark berries/fruit. Palate - Oak, dark fruit, leather, grape, that wine comes through but is lovely Finish - Cinnamon, vanilla, grape finish super good.

Platafina 4.5

High viscosity, fair amount of alcohol heat, rounded by the sweetness (plum/prune) flavors from the Prisoner. Good for cold weather or an after dinner drink. Consider pairing with a dark chocolate.

Exelixi 4.5

Musty complex aroma, some alcohol burn as well. Flavor is sweet, with some aged wood flavors coming in on the tail. Molasses and vanilla and dark toffee, tastes aged and blended well.

Nose: fruit forward nose Palette: cereal with fig jam. Not very tannic, rye spice on the back end with mint. More dark fruits in the finish
