About this bottle

HIRSCH The Single Barrel Double Oak is a limited edition Kentucky straight bourbon which has been finished in used American oak after an initial maturation in new American oak. Only 30 barrels will be released for this bottling. Importantly, there are three styles of single barrels, each with two different mash bill recipes blended at different ratios. Those two mash bills are: 72% corn, 13% rye, 15% malted barley which was aged for 8 years and 7 months and 74% corn, 18% rye, and 8% malted barley aged for 3 years and 7 months. As is the nature of such releases, expect the flavor profile and ABV to vary by barrel. Available nationwide at select retailers beginning May 2023. (SRP $99)

I genuinely thought it was outstanding. I got barrel gld23006 @128.2 proof. Seems to be found around Northern KY 255 bottles available. The viscosity and mouthfeel made me so happy. Its been so long since a random off the shelf $100 retail bourbon was actually worth the money. This one drinks like an LE. Better than the last 5 4 roses smble. Id probably compare it to a darker richer better tasting Russell's 13 or maybe an older better tasting version of Michters BS bourbon. Im having a hard time comparing it to anything in particular its like an amalgamation of Buffalo Trace , Wild Turkey and Michters. I loved ot so much I made the drive from North Central Ohio back down to Newport KY just to get 2 more bottles. If you see this grab it. If you dont love it ill buy your open bottle from you at full retail. Zero risk.

Richly endowed nose of deep oak and sweet corn, overlaid with some peppery baking spices. Interestingly, there's a lot of flavor at the front of the palate, with a sweet molasses character that carries the weight of the more subtle flavors of wood, corn, rye and young tobacco. The finish is medium, with a lot of the high notes ending toward the back of the throat. Everything concludes with a slight tannic bitterness on the tongue.
