NOSE: grassy;. TASTE: The initial tastes are a combination of an earthiness, dry wheat, leather and faint hints of caramel and oak. Not much sweetness at all. PALATE: on the pallet(center of my mouth) there is a transition to a much more dry grass/wheat kind of taste, but not necessarily unpleasant. With subsequent sips there appears to be a conflagration of tastes. FINISH: nonetheless… The finish is dry, and I’m still left with that earthiness & dry wheat/grass, taste and impression upon my flavor senses. Im really WANTING to enjoy and love this bourbon, but in the final analysis, it doesn’t move me to want more. To me, it is not worth the $89.00+ I spent on it in terms of enjoying the bourbon. HOWEVER, in the context of the support of the men of the U.S. “horse soldier“ infantry in the Afghanistan, war, and their dedication, sacrifice, and service for their country, well,… you simply can’t put a price tag on that!!! 🥰

Bought for an incredible price at CityWide Liquors on Grape Road (normally around $65) Color: nice medium amber Nose: 9.7/10! Different! Brilliant, bright, airy butterscotch with, at the same time, bold undertones of toffee and mint Taste: soft butterscotches caramels, vanillas, lightly roasted nuts, and then a light WAVE of buttery barley with lingering barley/gingery zing that fades to pepper. Mash: 70% corn (yellow dent 2) 20% wheat (soft red winter) 10% barley (Two-row, combination distillers malt and base two-row). Undisclosed age. I love it all the way up until the lingering barley taste (I hate that barley flavor)

At first I didn't like it due to a strong alcohol taste and smell. Halfway through the bottle and it's opened up a lot more. Sweet and grainy on the nose. Oily initially with a mix of sweet and maybe some sort of fruit, then finishes with pepper on the tongue. The peppery finish lasts a bit which I like, though I think the bottle is 10-20 dollars too expensive.

Light brassy in color, voluminous legs show up and move quickly. Lots of rye on the nose, grassy and bit vegetal. A hint of vanilla and some corn. Its a little rough around the edges. A hint of sweetness upfront, but dry and a bit bitter on the back end. Some notes of cornflakes among the spiciness. It lacks entirely in harmony and depth.

This bourbon is very smooth. When served on a rock it is delightful. Its sweet but not too sweet. The flavor absolutely has some vanilla hint to it. I do love the story behind Horse Soldier story. A oortion of proceeds go back to combat veterans organizations. Also the logo is made from steel recovered at the site of 9/11

Umami (meaty) and a bit of cherry cola on the nose. Palate is smooth, with vanilla and a bit of spiciness, transitioning to a mustiness (sawdust?) with a hint of the cola returning. Drinkable pour, but nothing stands out. Bottle now says made and bottled in Ohio. When will the Somerset, Ky. distillery be completed?
