4/13/22 bought this in Marquette, MI for $69.99. Was very disappointed to read that this was sourced. However, this might be in its favor. I tried the 86 proof standard at a local bar and wasn’t too impressed. This barrel proof is a different story… The nose is Mrs Butterworth’s pancake syrup. Warm brown sugar, hints of honey. Caramel and very little astringent ethanol. Taste is similar, but less syrup influence. More traditional bourbon flavors. Caramel, vanilla, Swiss cake rolls? A touch of nuttiness but faint. Finish is subtle. I’m surprised by how little the proof hits. No burn. Oak, faint popsicle stick. More honey. Short flavorful finish. I don’t regret spending $70 on this, but I don’t think I would buy it again. I would’ve spent $70-80 and buy the “Starlight bourbon finished in Maple” if I can find it. Much better overall, and it’s their own distillate.
Iron Fish Barrel Strength Bourbon Finished in Maple Syrup Barrels
About this bottle
This expression starts as a bourbon mash bill of corn, rye, and malted barley matured in traditional charred oak casks. It is then finished in a whiskey cask that once held maple syrup. It is bottled at cask strength which will vary from batch to batch but will be around 112-116 proof.

MEGA-BEV GRAND RAPIDS MICHIGAN SINGLE BARREL PICK Wow!. A nice hidden gem for me. Nose: is caramelized maple. The alcohol heat does come in a tad Palate: comes in hot, silky burnt caramel, raisins. Fades to light maple cinnamon. Follows with a really nice tongue buzz. VERY pleased with this
Dont be confused. Not a “maple” flavored bourbon. Is a tad sweet but full bourbon flavor. I like the regular maple barrell finish but the cask strength deos step it up. Love it.
Good flavor, some burn.
Smooth, sweet
