A dram in honor of Burns Night '21. Justerini has been carrying Brooks for years and I'm not afraid to say it! Pours a pale old gold color. A little leggy, but respectfully so. The nose is butterscotch and coffee creamer. I'm getting very mild barrel tannins; something approximating sherried wood. Cabbage and sulfurics. There is a tiny bit of peated smoke, which is surprising; earthy potting soil. The flavor is a burst of butterscotch, red apple skins, butter and cream, immediately followed by tobacco ash and smoke at the swallow, almost like when you accidentally took a swig of a bottle with cigarette ashes in it. (But not in a bad way.) More of the barrel stuff that's half-puckery, half-sherry sweetness. There is a real perfume-like flavor in the middle of the palate. The finish is like sipping a bottle of perfume, along with that sherry afterglow. A very distinctive cigarette/tobacco end that reminds me of Sundays at my grandpa's. (He had both cigarettes and J&B in the cupboard.) A curious white plastic at the tail end. I can only imagine that this was the very first Scotch for countless young men and women, and while this one isn't complex or particularly outstanding, it'll do in a pinch when you need to mix in something a little smoky but don't want to use anything from your single malt stash.
J&B Rare Blended Scotch
About this bottle
J&B began as most Scotch whisky blends did — through wine & spirits merchants. J&B stand for the names "Justerini", an Italian who had followed his heart to London and subsequently became a wine & liquor merchant, and "Brooks" who purchased the business a few generations later. The blend as we know it today came about in the 1930s, just after the end of Prohibition.

Review #10 - Whisk(e)y #6 This was the only whisky which I actually could not drink. Absolutely awful. I was poured some in a glass and after the first sip I decided to literally pour it down the drain. Although the initial smell is ok...simple, light, citric, vanilla, slightly smoky...the taste differs greatly. It had a harsh taste of chemicals, medicine...I do not even think mixing it in a cocktail would save this. Johnnie Walker Red Label and Jim Beam Original are several steps above it, and that says a lot about it. I’m not expecting anything crazy, but it’s always good to build a frame of reference. In this case, it’s blended scotch. The nose is sweet and lightly fragrant with some light peat, juicy pears and red apples, light malt, vanilla and some corn (spirit). The palate is sweet and light with light peat, malt vanilla, pear, corn spirit and a little cayenne pepper on the back of the palate. The finish is medium in length with sweet vanilla and a hint of peat hanging on with a tingling of cayenne pepper. For a standard blended whiskey, this one actually surpassed my expectations. It’s just interesting enough to enjoy sipping. A solid budget blended scotch.
Ok. So, this review may not apply to the current iteration of J & B for reasons I shall elaborate and elucidate in due time. Nonetheless, this is an honest review of the product I’m tasting. In years past, my grandfather was the personal pilot for the CEO of a restaurant company. He’s retired now, but he still has a big box full of miniature liquor bottles that have been sitting in his basement for the better part of 2 decades. The J&B that I’m tasting came from one of these 50mL plastic bottles, except the bottle probably contained
🏴 06/07/2021 Antalya Burun: Çok hafif meyvemsi ve kuruyemiş kokularına meşe eşlik ediyor. Alkol belirgin. 66/100
