One day i woke up and found out that Jack Daniel's, the giant pioneer of Tennessee whiskey, had release a single malt. Yes my friends, a single malt requires it to be 100% made out of malted barley, from one distillery, matured for at least 3 years in an oak barrel and bottled at least at 40%abv... And guess what, Jack Daniel's did that. And they bottle a litre of it. This new release has been matured in sherry casks, bottled at 45%abv and it was only released for travel retail markets. My first aroma impression: it feels like it has a bourbon spirit. Red fruits, sherry, coffee with caramel. Toffee dessert. Impressive hazelnut, really impressive, "Hanuta". After a little while there is a note of chocolate rice krispies. Great nose. On the palate: Caramel, sherry, red fruits. Reminds me a lot of a rye whiskey on the palate. There is this feeling like a corn balls snacks. A very nice maple syrup, brown sugar, chilli. Aftertaste is Dry. Oloroso sherry, spicy ginger. Lovely spiciness. After a long while i got cotton candy. Overall, this is completely different from any other Jack Daniel's. I would never be able to tell this is a "JD" in a Blind tasting. It is a single malt, it smells like one and tastes like one. This is a great step for mankind, undoubtely. My score for it is 90 over 100. I am really surprised with this one.
Jack Daniel's American Single Malt Oloroso Sherry Cask
About this bottle
This bottling from Jack Daniel's is the first permanent American single malt expression from the brand. It was crafted with a 100% malted barley mash bill recipe. After distillation, the spirit goes through charcoal mellowing (the same method that is used for its Tennessee whiskey) before aging for 5+ years in new, charred American oak. It is then finished in oloroso sherry casks from Spain for ~ 3 years. Bottled at 90 proof, this release is a global travel retail exclusive. Availability begins September 2023. (SRP $99.99 - 1 Liter)

Picked this up in duty free Istanbul. $99/liter. Comes out the bottle almost brown. Brown sugar is the main swetness. Toasted cherry with a dark brown banana bread you get from a lot of JD. The taste is banana with sweet cinnamon. After a bit you get spicy marshmallow. Long aftertaste with thick smooth texture. Roasty sweet all the way through. Sucks that this is only a duty free thing, but it’s excellent.
Coming back to this a few months later and I’m enjoying more than my initial taste. I notice the Sherry cask much more this time with dark fruits on the nose and palate. Still lots of spice. Some honey and malt.
Nose: herbal and earthy, dark chocolate, malty Taste: dried fruit, plums and berries, oak, spice, malty and herbal
Very very nice smell but the mouthfeel and taste could not match it. Overall a nice whisky but nothing super special
I get oak and caramel on the nose. Some spice as well. Similar palate with a bit of cherry on the finish
