Solid, solid bourbon. I’m not great at subtle flavor notes but more of the overall feel: Hits a little hard at first, but a single, small ice cube smoothed out the rough edges and unlocked a whole variety of flavors. Easily drinkable, full-bodied, delicious finish, heat, but not overpowering. Just enough buttery taste to make you want “just one more half pour” after every glass. If it wasn’t one of the more expensive bottles in my cabinet, this would automatically be the go-to. My only con: I typically add one or two cubes of ice, kind of just whatever I’m feeling, and I don’t have to worry about killing the glass that much. For Voyage 22, I had to balance the ice VERY carefully. One ice cube was perfect. Two, suddenly was overwatered, flavors were dulled quickly, the complexity and those kind of intangibles that make this stand out were *completely* gone. So if you add ice, add very slowly. I had probably half of my first pour left and actually re-poured a second glass to try again. Well, well worth it. If you can, try this one out.

About this bottle
The straight bourbons from Jefferson's Ocean Aged At Sea collection have aged around 6 to 8 years on land, before the barrels are sent off to travel at sea for several months. Also, the bourbon selected for this batch were all made with wheat as the secondary grain rather than rye. The OCEARCH research vessel covers 5 different continents and 30 ports of call. This is the third wheated Ocean Voyage bottle I’ve tried, and the best. It really isn’t in my wheelhouse, being lower proof and underwhelming on the palate. In fact, I couldn’t put my finger on any significant flavor on the tongue. That being said, it is extremely pleasant and has nothing offending to put me off. Contrary to the very good but nondescript palate, the finish pounds your tastebuds with charred oak and salt. Considering how difficult it is to find a good bourbon off the shelf nowadays, this is certainly worth it’s $85 price. Note: The one I have is a barrel select from Total Wine, but I assume not much different from others.
I’ve seen this family on the shelves and have heard tons about this product for a few years - and finally I decided to try it! Some of the online reviews made me think I’d be wasting money on this purchase, but I am fairly pleased. I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something different about this whiskey. It’s almost a buttery, salted caramelized flavor. There is a little bite, but it’s gentle and purposeful. Very pleased overall! I foresee myself purchasing tastes of future voyages!
I’ve tried this three times after letting it open up over a week then a month then a few more weeks. Initially it smells pleasing, like oranges and a bit of vanilla with little or no oak. Initial taste is sweet but is followed by overpowering orange flavor then it just becomes heat and burn with a hint of oak and more burn at the end. As much as I want to like it, I just can’t get on board with this voyage.
Kenwood Store pick Aroma- alcohol soaked cherries… burnt sugar, mild cinnamon spice. It’s not overly complex.. but it’s intriguing. Taste - pretty sweet…caramel bomb followed up by vanilla and oak. Long lasting finish makes this a great sipper. There is even a slight spice on the finish.
Smooth, a bit oily, rich, with a bit alcohol heat but mellows out in a buttery finish. Slight floral and spice upfront with some salt throughout and the wheat gives it more of the grainy full bodied flavor. Great whiskey but very dangerous!
