About this bottle

The straight bourbons from Jefferson's Ocean Aged At Sea collection have aged around 6 to 8 years on land, before the barrels are sent off to travel at sea for several months. Typically the route takes the vessel to five different continents and 30 ports of call. However for Voyage 24, the barrels took a new route for the first time in the series travelling only to ports in the Caribbean and Central America. This exposed the barrels to high heat for the duration of the trip.

The concept of being aged at sea was intersting to me, but I was unsure if I would detect any noticeable differences. After my first tasting, I have to say, I’m a believer. On the nose I detected sweetness and fruit. The smell was pleasant, but didn’t present anything surprising. Overall the aroma was what you would expect from a bourbon. Moving on to the taste - this is where it really shines. When the bourbon touches the palate, there is an instant sweetness and smoothness. Flavors of carmel come to the forefront and there seems to be a slight oiliness. In contrast, the finish is spicy and slightly smoky. The aftertaste is subtly reminiscent of a blended scotch.

Nose is lite with scents of caramel, orange and cinnamon Taste starts with an immediate hit of ether which feels like its going to hit strong but doesnt. As the ether dissipates the flavor fills in with caramel, vanilla, orange, green apple and cloves Finish: medium to long finish with toffee and roasted marshmallows and s hint of leather. The green apples also evolve to bring back an ether chemical flavor. It warms up quickly evolves to a nice flavor and zsps yiu on the way out.

Appearance: Rich copper, toffee esque almost caramel in color. Nice clarity. Aroma: sweet on the nose at first, then some oak and vanilla with maybe a bit of citrus coming through Palette: Spice early then quick transition to lingering sweetness, minimal burn for this proof, nice vanillas, butterscotch, and maybe a touch of lavender - increasingly smooth with a few drops of water. Nice finish with no lingering burn at all. Very nice pour! Maybe my favorite for the price point.

NOSE Oaky, caramel, leathery dried fruit, Banana’s Foster, vanilla, baking spice and a touch biscuity. Good side of standard bourbon, nothing revolutionary on this one, but nice. PALATE Oaky, caramel, baking spice, Banana’s Foster, vanilla, baking spice, biscuity, roasted nuts. Good side of standard bourbon, nice, but nothing great. FINISH Medium -> Banana, oak, caramel and nutty.

Chocolate and citrus on the nose. First sip offers no burn at first but it builds and offers a good linger and surprise finish. Black pepper and char are the most prevalent. Ice softens the burn and makes this more enjoyable.

Nice briny nose that translates to the taste. Similar to the Voyage 23 …. pleasant pour with some spice and brinyness. Nice for a change of pace pour and easy drinker. Not sweet so hits the spot time to time.
