About this bottle

Launched in 1995 for the distillery’s 200th anniversary, Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia was the world’s first extra-añejo tequila. It’s made from agave harvested at peak maturity (6–9 years old) and then cooked in brick ovens. Aged a minimum of three years in American and French oak, it’s released annually in a limited collector’s box designed by a Mexican artist. The 2025 edition, celebrating the product’s 30th anniversary, features artwork by Ana Segovia.

A rich caramel and toffee forward nose. Dark, somewhat smokey flavor entry, with a sweet dessert-like flavor reminiscent of caramel flan. A medium body with a gentle warmth and a peppery effect on the back of the palate. A long finish ending on a lingering spice note. It tastes of history and continuity. The artist's box is special as well, crafted of wood and painted by a reknowned artist. Along with the bottle inside, there is also a booklet signed by the artist detailing the inspiration and process behind the artwork. The whole package makes for a beautiful statement on your bar. Highly recommended.

I'm definitely not a tequila fan, the signature agave flavour doesn't really float my boat. However saying that I have had a handful I've enjoyed. Let's start off saying it's a good example of a great tequila. Rich, oily vanilla aqave, smokey toasted oak and more going on. Definitely wouldn't buy a bottle but if you like a drop of Mexico's finest this would be a good place to start. Solid 4.25 from me.....will have to try one of those Mezcals people are raving about next.

I like that it has the sweet, caramel, vanilla, Smokey flavors going for it. My knock against it is that the alcohol is very present. Surprisingly, it hits you right in the face when you go to sip it. 1942 and Clase Azul have none of that. I do like that the mouthfeel is thinner than 1942, and more similar to Clase Azul. I also like the interesting smokey, unami type flavors of the middle and finish. I had the 2018 release.

This comes full circle for me since Cuervo is the sinister brand that has caused so many mutilated memories of what people think tequila is. Don’t get it twisted, this is crafted using old world methods and is additive free (I believe) - lots of great sweetness here in the form of vanilla and caramel. More of that vegetal agave hit than most extra Anejos but for me that’s not a bad thing at all. A nice sipper.

2019 Release An elegant, Agave Spirit by NOM 1122 with a presentation box was designed by Melanie Smith & bottled at 38% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of notes of agave, wood, fruits, nuts, herbs & spices; while a cherry, sweet oak spices, vanilla & roasted agave; that led to a balanced death of medium length with a touch of pepper, cinnamon, almond, cognac & smoke.

Light sweet oaky/vanilla nose. Mild sweet flavor with notes of oak with a touch of agave & pepper. Mild oaky/ vanilla warm finish with hints of red apple. Smooth, there's no harsh notes at all. Had the first pour from the bottle at Gloria's in Arlington,TX.
