Odd, but worth a try. Personally it's a favorite. Nose is a bit strong. Pallet is syrupy sweet from the fig. Almost jam like. Tastes like a Manhattan right out of the bottle. But of sour bitters in the finish which leaves a mulled taste in the mouth. It's very different from most whiskeys but worth the try.
About this bottle
This expression was created in homage of the Field Museum in Chicago. It is the distillery's Last Feather Rye—made from 60% rye and 40% wheat—that was then infused with black mission figs for 3 months. It is bottled at 90 proof.

Obviously fruity, but not in a cheap way. Bit of a bite, but incredibly smooth overall. If you wanted a breakfast bourbon, this would be it. Purchased in Carmel, Indiana over the holidays, currently struggling to find it sold anywhere in NYC
Very smooth for a rye. Fruity nose, presumably from the figs. Fruit flavors continue on the palate, as well as rye spice notes. Has a full mouthfeel, and minimal heat. A very different and enjoyable rye whiskey.
Collaboration with Field Museum in Chicago. Sweetener = fig. “Tastes like tea” -McKinley. Too sweet for me to drink a lot of it.
Really like this juice! The fig really comes through!
Figgy. Good for a Manhattan they say
