Kamet is distilled using six-row barley grown in the foothills of the Himalayas, and is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon American oak, ex-wine French oak, and ex-sherry Casks (Pedro Ximenez & Oloroso) then bottled at 46% ABV. The nose starts with a mix of sour red berries, chocolate covered raisins and charred whole wheat toast then dark roasted coffee beans followed by strawberries with balsamic vinegar, lemon poppy seed muffins and cherries jubilee that transitions to aniseed, cardamom, leather and black tea leaves with medium ethanol burn. The taste is a thin to medium mouthfeel starting with a mix of sour red berries, chocolate covered raisins and charred whole wheat toast then a spicy mocha followed by powdered sugar covered strawberries with balsamic vinegar, lemon zest and sour cherries that transitions to aniseed, cardamom, saffron and black tea leaves with medium ethanol burn. The finish is medium length with fresh figs, baked pears, high percentage dark chocolate, cardamom and freshly brewed black tea. There is a nice balance of sour citrus and berries with dark chocolate and spices but this leans a little too sour and bitter than I’d prefer. This could be really interesting at a higher ABV to increase the flavors and mouthfeel as well as excluding the ex-wine French oak that seems to push this too far in the sour and bitter flavor direction, but it’s still an enjoyable pour that has a great combination of flavors and delicious finish that is priced well at $55. A huge thanks to @ctbeck11 for the generous sample.

These notes are from a blind tasting (Flaviar Advent Calendar) The smell is really nice and quite familiar. I have more experience with Paul John than with Amrut when it comes to Indian whiskies, and this reminds me of Paul John. Dried orchard fruits, Banana, Pear, Green Apples, Almonds, Honey, and Vanilla The taste starts with a blast of alcohol burn but after it fades, there are really nice barley sugars, sour fruits, and vanilla. It starts sweet and turns sour, a really cool experience. The finish is medium to long. Mostly the sour hanging around with the almond showing up at the very end. This was a good experience. Honestly, I haven’t come across an Indian whisky I haven’t enjoyed yet. Depending on the price, this is definitely worth a buy. Best one of the advent calendar so far. Would happily drink this any time. Overall Grade: B (Good/Very Good)
Found another Indian whisky on sale at TW. I have become quite a fan of this country's single malt. This is lesser known here (not sure about there) but still delivers. Nose is apple cider and cream, rich malt, dusty books and the usual lovely Indian spice rack. Full and deep without ethanol interference. Palate is bright and youthful but loaded with flavor. Tangy malt and tropical fruits(maybe kiwi) alongside toasty oak and simmering spices. Its slightly hot but has a crispness to it. Indian malts have a unique finish just as Islay's do. The fruity malt and spice with barrel tannins combine for a nice long fade. I like this better than PJ Ive had and its not too far behind Amrut.......87/100
A rich, Indian Single Malt Whisky by Surrinder Kumar in Haryana, India; crafted with local six-row barley, in a custom copper pot stills before maturing in a combination of ex-bourbon casks, ex-wine French oak casks & ex-Pedro Ximenez & Oloroso casks, that is bottled at 46% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of fruit, oak spice, vanilla, caramel, crème brûlée, dried fruits & nuts; while a fruity life adds notes of vanilla, nutmeg, cedar, oak, dark chocolate, stewed: figs, prunes & raisins; that leads to a rich death of medium length with notes of orange curd & cinnamon. This one was interesting... initial nose of honey and flowers. Going back in, I'm picking up vanilla, a bit of oak, and a faint hint of dark chocolate somewhere back there. The taste was extremely smooth. A bit surprised by the floral explosion on my tastebuds. Reminded me of an ipa but without any of the bitterness. Once again, dark chocolate on the back end and a subtle warmth that lingered longer than I expected. I'd enjoy this on the rocks any time and would love to share with a few friends as it was my first experience with a single malt out of India.
I was gifted this bottle from sweet Prentiss & Meg after becoming double board certified! Exciting since I haven’t had much from India!Tried neat. On the nares it’s almost tart with notes of malt, apple, cherry, chalk, sherry, honey. On the palate I get notes of leather, wood, grain, and slight peaty. It’s somewhat earthy. Slightly bitter finish.
