About this bottle

Kaniché Réserve Rum is part of the Maison Ferrand portfolio of spirits, a brand most known for their cognac. The Kaniché range of rums is distilled exclusively on the island of Barbados, where this Réserve Rum initially ages in casks previously used for bourbon maturation. The rum is then sent to the estate in France, where it finishes in cognac casks. It is bottled at 40% ABV.

Vaclav Spiegel 4.3

Smell is decent, sugar cane juice and honey with subtle apple hints. Taste is light, sweet, cane sugar caramel, honey and floral tones. I wouldn't say spices like other commenters but rather tea herbs (camomile, sage, balm,...). Little bit spicy tingle on the end. But honestly I don't understand why this rum is so underrated. I got bottle for like 16 EUR, and for that price it's superb rum. Light but with enough complexity to enjoy sipping, that classic Barbados sweetness is nice but also still far far far away from the diabetes in bottle like basic Diplomatico, Zacapa and other rum based confectionery.

For a person accustomed to the rank harshness of Bacardi rums (and who assumed she didn't like rum based solely on this experience. I am still learning and have recently found rums that are actually delicious) this is nearly a sipping quality rum. Very little harsh alcohol burn on its own. Sweet, but not cloying. Best from the freezer. Vanilla, caramel notes dominate, with a light smokiness. Mixes well (I am currently enjoying it in a rum flip); an excellent rum for the price.

A lot of alcohol flavor. It's lightly flavored otherwise, like someone put vodka through some wood with butterscotch and spices for a short duration. It tastes way too young and doesn't have a ton of complexity. Definitely not a sipper, but it could be a mixer. There are some definite tropical fruits as well. It isn't enjoyable to sip.

AnttiRG 4.5

A rich Rum from Barbados aged in bourbon & cognac casks. It has an aromatic birth with notes of cane sugar & wood. while a rich life led to a long & balanced death. February 2016 / June 2017

Looneyhead 3.3

Nose of wood, cherry popsicle, spice, soy sauce, vanilla and banana. Sweet taste of butterscotch, caramel, baking spice, pineapple, banana, vanilla and a slight hint of black pepper.

Pot still funk on the nose with sweet molasses and vanilla oak notes. A vanilla bomb on the tongue. Sweet, with stewed dried fruits that ends dry . A nice Barbados mixing rum.
