I’m slowly getting into rum. I’m a whiskey drinker, as I’d imagine most people on this app are. I was told that foursquare is a good entry into the rum genre. I agree; four square is fantastic. But then, I found a store pick of this for $30, remembered someone saying once that it was good, and picked it up. It wasn’t until after I first tried this that I saw that it also comes from the Foursquare distillery. Tasting this - I can totally see that. This rum is super well-balanced. Right amount of sweet, tropical notes mixed with those deep caramels and tobaccos you find in whiskey. Neither one is over-powering, but rather complementing. Great slightly-oily mouthfeel. For $30, the Real McCoy 5 makes its >$70 big brother not look so impressive. Definitely worth a pickup if you are looking to enter the rum genre.

The nose is subtly spicy, a little bit hot from the alcohol, but not too much. Lots of oak, spicy and tannic like French oak, brown sugar, vanilla, cigar papers, plus overripe, caramelized tropical fruits like honey papaya and grilled pineapple. On the tongue it’s sweet but not cloying. Plenty of sugar, spice, and everything nice. There’s fruit syrup, honeydew primarily, cola spice, oak, and a bit of cocoa. The body is a little thin in the mouth, but in the glass the legs are quick but pretty, heavy with large teardrops falling nice and straight in uniform arches in one wave after another. The finish is short, dry, moderately fruity with a hint of maraschino cherry, vanilla, and lingering wood. Nose: 9 Taste: 9 Body: 8 Finish: 8
A deep copper color with aromas of banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, banana, bananana! In all seriousness, this tropical elixir sports ebullient aromas of overripe Cavendish bananas, red bananas, Gros Michel bananas, and plenty of artificial banana candy flavoring. On the palate there's rich brown sugar, vanilla, grassy plantain, and subtle warming Christmas spice. The finish is short and echoes banana and sugar. A very easy drinking rum, but certainly not an interesting one.
I keep going back and forth on this like I’m Joe Manchin over here. Sometimes aim like “Ayyyy we got ourselves a contender!” And sometimes I’m like Ayyyy what is this upstart juice?” Overall it’s solid if a tad on the thin side . It’s also so complimentary to the super woke super sketchy super racist brand of Coke it’s the only label I’ll blend with it when no ones looking but the cat.
Decent rum. Has a palate of butterscotch and caramel, and it runs thick with those flavors. I enjoyed it neat and then on the rocks. I'm sure it would make a good mixing rum. I went out of my way to get this because their 3 year old white rum was one of the first white rums that I actually liked. This is alright too. I'll probably check out the 12 year in the future.
This rum grew on me. At first it seemed fairly ordinary, but the more I drink it the more I like it. It has a natural brown-sugar sweetness although no sugar is added. There is a spicy element to it, along with a hint of vanilla. It has a nice, full flavor that is more complex than it seems at first. I will likely buy this again.
