This was a 2oz sample from the 1993 vintage. It was given to me by an online retailer after there was an error with an order I placed. This is pale yellow in color and is very watery in the Glencairn. The nose is weak vanilla and barley, with faint oak sustaining the backbone. The palate is smooth and slightly sweet. Candied corn, vanilla and a little warm. The finish is quick with no burn. Very smooth. Overall, there’s nothing exciting here. It’s smooth and a little sweet and would probably be well hidden in any cocktail you need some whiskey for. There’s no need to drink this neat. There’s also no need to buy a bottle. 2-2.5 stars. Cheers.
About this bottle
Knappogue Castle Distillery (pronounced nah-POGUE) was founded by Mark Edwin Andrews and named after the Irish castle he and his wife bought and renovated together. In the 1960's Andrews would buy casks of pot still whiskey from top distillers, to age and bottle them under his own label. This single-malt, vintage-dated whiskey was distilled in 1990.

Knappogue Castle 1990 is perhaps the smoothest whiskey of any kind I have ever drank. A friend and I went through a bottle one New Years Eve and woke the next morning with no deleterious effects other than thirst. But that was 20 years ago and the memory is fading. Light and fruity with a hint of caramel.
Tastes like cherry cough syrup. Not bad but no need to buy a full bottle. BTW, my 2oz sample was from a 1994 bottle.
Flavors very light. Grassy vanilla on palate. Oak and fruit on finish
Actually the 1995 lovely sweet and smooth. Very little burn so nice.
Cooley malt strikes again. Good irish, if you can find it.
