An elegant, Japanese Blended Whisky by the Tokinosakagura / Helios Distillery in Kushu, Japan crafted with peat from the marshes of Hokkaido. A heavily peated Spirit then joins other Okinawa Single Malts in a careful blend after it spends years in American oak casks. Then, the blend is finished in used Japanese Rum barrels. It has a birth in the forest with notes of moss, leaves, hints of vanilla, soft malt & dried apricot; while a balanced life adds notes of spices, peat, earthy smoke & light rum; that led to a long peaty & toasty finish with notes of pepper. This was a surprise to me. Never heard of it before. Picked one up from the Mitswa in NJ. The nose was very pleasant with light plumb, tropical fruits, sweet nectar, and a little maltiness. The palate is sweet with mild taste of nose elements. The finish is medium length with a bit of heat and mild rum flavor. There is the slightest background of smoke. Pairs well with Japanese food. Drank with shabu shabu tonight. It was surprisingly good.
Nose: grape, old sneaker smell, port wine Interesting, not 1 dimensional. Graham cracker, marshmallow opening then you get ported wine, fruity middle. Finish leaves a slight peated sensation. Little buzz. Nose: 7 Front: 7 Middle: 8 Back: 7 Water, -2 more alcohol comes through. Citrus, maybe peaches come through.
ugh, this was just not good. not balanced at all. hot up front even though it's only 40% abv. it has a weird finish, like an burnt aftertaste. I tried it in a highball thinking that it would be better but that aftertaste is still there. not sure what to do with this bottle.
I'm just not getting a lot from this one. The nose is light, a little sweet and fruity. That goes through to the taste as well. It's all just too quiet and light for my tastes. I do find it very smooth and easy to drink though.
Nose: Slightly sweet, peat, damp wood Taste: Smooth, light barley n grains, light peat, a bit of slight wood flavor Enjoying much more than before. Good stuff although pretty mellow and light overall.
