Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength is aged in used barrels for 10 years. But unlike the flagship 10 year bottling, this whisky is only barrier filtered, meaning just the large chunks of char are removed leaving the whisky to shine on its own. As it is minimally filtered, adding water or changes in temperature will create a haze in the whisky. Batch 9 was released in early 2017 and was bottled at 58.1% ABV (116.2 proof).

Brine, toffee, vanilla, stewed apples, citrus, cinnamon, bonfire, asphalt, rubber, berry, tobacco, pepper. More medicinal and smoky on the palate. Such a great whisky. I like this one better than batch 12, as it comes across like there are some oloroso casks in the mix, although I had thought these were all ex-bourbon casks. Whatever the case, batch 9 shows more complexity than 12, but both awesome.
Rubbery and medicinal peat smoke. Once acclimated to the peat, there’s a lot of bright citrus and honey. The higher abv amplifies all of these flavors but isn’t overwhelming.... it also seems to bring out a toasted marshmallow note that I don’t recall getting with the standard 10.
A challenging taste. Peaty, but overly so. Notes of brine and tobacco. I had this with a ribeye, which made sense. I enjoyed it more when I added a splash of water and some rocks
I pretty much love any scotch that tastes like there’s a forest fire in my mouth.

First peated scotch. Go big or go home. I loved it!!!!
