The Elements series from Laphroaig celebrates innovation and creativity in whisky making. There are three experiments used here for this 1.0 release. First, a 50:50 combination of cloudy and semi-cloudy wort was used (usually only semi-cloudy used). Second, both an 8.5-tonne and 11-tonne sized mash was used reflecting the past (8.5) and present (11) of production norms. And lastly, 100% Islay malt was used. Bottled at 58.6% ABV, Elements 1.0 was launched in October 2023 with additional releases to follow in 2024. (SRP $205)

Immediately among my top 5 peated scotches regardless of age or distillery. The nose is fierce, with smoked bacon covered in fruit jam. The palate was equally strong and full, bringing more like pineapple and salted meat. Finish is long and lingering where the fruitiness, saltiness and smokiness perfectly alternate from front to back. This is a masterpiece by Laphroaig and my favorite offering from them to date.
The tobacco note on this is what makes this batch stand out--very delicious.
