Obtained this from a whiskey pull at a benefit event. It tastes like Laphroaig, all the expected notes are there, but it's only a shadow of itself at 40%. The flavors are actually more dialed back than I expected for being only 3% less ABV than the 10 year. It's fine, but I struggle to understand why anyone would buy this.
The nose is mild, peaty, floral, candy, light fruits - pear? The palate is fruity, peaty, smoky, mild, and woody. The finish is very, very short, spicy, hot, with only lingering black licorice notes.
Peaty, sweet smoke, just the right amount of sweet ( not much). Not too thick or chewy. Lasts small amount on the palate. Over the last few years, I am growing to like this more and more.
Wonderfully light smoke and sweetness! A new favorite for sure.
