About this bottle

Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition 2019 is one of two single malt releases the distillery has issued for its partnership with The Open Championship being held this year in Portrush, Northern Ireland. This Special Edition 2019 is a no-age statement single malt created by master distiller Michael Henry. It is aged in first-fill and refill American oak ex-bourbon barrels and refill American oak hogsheads. The single malt is said to contain four different spirits styles, something the distillery can accomplish with their unique pot stills.

I was unsure of trying this whisky as reviews and comments were all over the spectrum. What finally sold it for me was a negative review here that compared it to anCnoc 12 which the reviewer does not care for, but, which I consider to be one of the greats. The pour of the non chill-filtered dram is the palest straw gold. The nose is fresh orchard fruits with a hint of floral honey. On the tongue the fruit flavors of apple, pear, and peach interplay with a touch of sweetness. The finish brings honey malt forward with the faintest hint of peat--so faint that I couldn't detect it until my third sip. This may not be for everyone, but it is a style I really enjoy. If you are a fan of anCnoc 12 or Compass Box Artist Blend I think you would enjoy this dram.

Nose: Vanilla, cream, peach Palates: Floral, apricot, lychee, oak, vanilla, old fashioned car sweets / boiled sweets Finish: Medium finish. Hints of smoke. Stone fruit and orchard fruit. This is a summer whisky. Very easy to drink. Not a heavy hitter, but it is a fresh & tasty dram.

Costco $19 Nose: Peach, Pears, Light smoke and Peat Palate: Light smoke and peat again, light fruit, very non-offensive whisky Finish: Peat, Polish, Floral, Citrus pith Overall great for the money, Loch Lomond has a familiar profile, the 18 is amazing if you can get a bottle.

Excellent value. Peaty, a bit smoky. A light Highland malt with the peat and smoke of an Islay. I think some of the negative reviews are from those who haven’t experience a peaty scotch or acquired a taste for it yet. This is a nice scotch.

Reviews are all over for this one. I’m guessing the bad reviews have to do with its association to Colin Montgomerie, the biggest nutsack in golf. Fair enough, but pie-faced assholes aside, this is bottle is an excellent value.

It has the distinct taste of ass with notes of toe cheese. I’m giving it one star because it may work as an accelerant or for fuel in my lawnmower
