A balanced, Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey by Cooley Distillery in Kilbeggan, Ireland from a mash of malted & unmalted barley, aged for 8 years in 2nd & 3rd fill ex-Bourbon barrels, double distilled & 10% of the malt is peated. It has a fruity birth with barley malt, toasty oak, vanilla & a hint of floral, citrus & orange zest notes; while a sweet & woody life adds notes of barley, cereal, crunchy oak, minerality & citrus peel; that leads to a quick & gentle death with notes of malt, oak, pepper & honey. About this bottle
This single malt Irish whiskey is named after the family that originally owned Kilbeggan Distillery until its closure. The distillery was eventually bought by Cooley Distillery and now stands as an Irish whiskey museum. Double-distilled and slightly peated, it's made from malt whiskeys 8 to 10 years old and aged in ex-bourbon casks. Note: This is not currently available in the US.

I'll admit I've never even heard of Locke's, but it's pretty outstanding. A lot in common with DoubleWood, with honey being prominent. Sweet peach and ripe melon present too. I don't get the peat yet the finish is rich, if not quite as heavy as DW.
Very nice peat notes up front on the nose. Followed by light citrus peel, caramel, oak notes and a bit of vanilla. With the peat coming through to the finish. Easily one of my favorite Irish Whiskeys to drink neat.
Big shot of vanilla on the nose. Tasted with an ice-cube, lots of spice first, followed by sweet notes and a barest hint of smoke on the finish. I wouldn't say it's very complex, but it is very enjoyable.
On the front a bit of milk chocolate, peach, then peat. The sweet doesn’t balance we with the peat.
a great Irish with a little medicinal funk in the beginning. probably wouldnt buy a bottle
