What a wonderful dram! You can say whatever you want about Macallan. It’s expensive, it doesn’t deliver its price, it’s a big marketing brand, it’s not honest with its customers, it doesn’t have the integrity as other brands, it doesn’t deliver the ABV others do… But when it comes to their top bottles, man oh man! Does it deliver! I was for years a sucker for a Macallan. Then I got to know other brands that deliver much more for much less. Then I get this bottle and I’m back to being a sucker for a Macallan. Can I say it’s almost impossible to have a bottle with such an amazing experience? This one is what you’re looking for. Let’s go through it: Nose - butterscotch, tobacco, leather, a bit of a fig jam, there’s even a small floral note together with that vanilla, butterscotch. It’s just beautiful! Palate: butterscoth very present with a bit of a spicy note and almond nuts. The finish: it lingers for a while with a almond cake with honey. Very good and long finish. I’m a little puzzled here. Why do we need to pay so much for such a delight? Macallan really delivers big when the orice tag is high. Why can’t they proportionally deliver with lower price tags? Why can’t they just keep the same integrity throughout? This bottle deserves a 5 stsr review. But the price was too high for that, so it gets a 4.75. Cheers!
