About this bottle

Macallan Triple Cask Matured 15 Year has matured in a trinity of casks: European sherry seasoned oak casks, American sherry seasoned oak casks and American ex-bourbon oak casks. Note: The Triple Cask Matured portfolio was formerly known as Fine Oak. The brand changed the name to the line in 2018.

Nose - nice balance of raisins and ripe apples, dark honey, apple/grape leather, light cinnamon "spice" Taste - Gentle ginger spice/heat/tingle, apples, light raisin, dark honey, light bitter fruit stems Finish - Lingering apple, ginger heat remains, lingering bitter fruit stems that seem to build in intensity Score - 77/100 Final Thoughts - I wanted to like this a bit more than I did, especially after saying their stuff is usually decent, but overhyped but sadly it all sort of fell apart after the nose. Nose was decent, good balance of oak and sherry notes of raisins and seemed overall very pleasant. The palate started out nicely but had a bit more of a ginger spice/heat/tingle than expected for a 43% and this sort of masked up the apple & raisin vibe a bit. Adding to this was the fact that there was this odd bitterness that took over halfway through and just lingered through to the finish where it kind of got a bit distracting. It lingered long through the finish and it felt like your palate was fighting the fruit stem bitterness to find the sweet apples and raisins you originally tasted. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - No Would I buy a bottle? - No NOTE - All reviews are done without factoring in price.

Not being the best Macallan fan out there, i got to admit that every time a have a 15yo expression from this distillery, i get really impressed. This is the Triple Cask Matured, 2018 release, which i believe it has replace the 15yo fine oak one, or maybe i am mistaken. Bottled at 43%abv, golden color. On the nose, it was breathtaking. Super aroma of raisins; super aroma of sawdust, super aroma of hazelnut. Smells exactly like a power bar; dates, butterscotch and nuttiness was spectacular. Wedding cake, chocolate dry cake. Just incredible. On the palate it was delicious. Chocolate cake, dry dates, nutty. The tobacco note is awesome. Aftertaste was very good, although it is the part of this whisky with less points. Tobacco, dry grass, oak spice. Sawdust. Medium long. Overall, this has the Macallan DNA all over it, but in a good way (Lol). I believe this is a great offering, and of course is a lot mlre expensive that most 15yo, but if you want to buy a Macallan because you care to impress people and like the brand, i recommend you to pick this one. My score is 93 over 100.

Never had any Macallan before. I was gifted this bottle and very appreciative to receive. Poured neat, nose is deep sweet fruits and buttery malt. Tangerine, dates and hint of white grape surrounded by autumn leaves and gentle oak. Very refined. Palate has rich thick malt and fruits transitioning to wood notes then robust French roast coffee & cream. Has some heat to it but still maintains smooth. Finishes long with malt, fruit and dark chocolate fading dry to coffee and wood. This is not cheap scotch, goes for $90-120. Truly excellent sophisticated single malt but is it worth it? Macallan has a reputation of being a bit overpriced. Depends on your financial situation. I wish I could drink nothing but these high end aged scotches as they are sublime to my palate but alas the credit card bill eventually shows up. For my money in this age range I would take Glenfiddich 15 or Balvenie 14 over this for less $$ however I cant drop it below A rating despite the price as the quality and excellence is undeniable..........91/100

I've should have known better than to go for the tripple cask version of this 15 yo Macallan. Recently tried vs 4 other 15 yos including the Yoishi, Glengoyne, Glen Scotia and the Glendronach Revival. At the bottom of the pit we had the flat tasting Glengoyne and the bit sour Macallan. I expected a bit more from the Easter Elchies House of Scotland.

Aroma is not unpleasant but it’s not earth-shattering either, rather basic, but on the good side of basic, with its delivery of fruity and malty aromas; Palate is also light with malty, fruity and baked sweets notes – again, not bad but light and without dramatic complexity; Finish is soft and sweet and my favorite part of this Scotch.
