About this bottle

Originally only available in 375ml sized bottles, Maker's Mark Cask Strength is now packaged and sold in full-sized bottles. As the name suggests, it is batched and bottled at cask strength (108-114 proof). It is minimally filtered to remove wood pieces, but it is not chill-filtered so expect a fuller flavor as well as a higher proof. This cask strength expression is the base for other Maker's Mark Wood Finishing expressions. Batch 20-01 is bottled at 110.1 proof.

Nose is very classic. Maple syrup and black pepper bring bacon to the nose. Carmel in the forefront too. Hints of cherry, apple, vanilla and chocolate. Palate is round and rich but finish is unfortunately short. Chocolate and maple syrup linger a little. Very smooth for 110 proof, but I was hoping for more bite. Delicious sweet desert bourbon that I will keep stocked and would recommend. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Bad - Multiple flaws. 4. Below average - Not bad, but many things I'd rather have. 5. Good - Just average. 6. Very Good - Better than average. 7. Great - Well above average. 8. Excellent - In a league of its own. 9. Incredible - An all-time favorite. 10. Perfect

Right out eh freshly opened bottle it’s curiously flat but after letting her open up as you should there comes rising up a rich full maple long john flavor that lingers and actually made me smile. Looking forward to trying it again down the road after it sits shelved for a while. Not as hot as I would have expected at such a high proof. Not sure what they’re charging for it but I. wouldn’t be mad at all if I had to cough up $40-50 for it

Batch 20-01, 55.05 % abv. Sweet meadow grass, floral grain nose. Big fruit, vanilla, oak char, giving way to spicy rye in the mouth. Not overly hot, but an expansive first taste followed by a medium mouthfeel. Finish is char and eucalyptus, saline and pepper, lingering a good while. A really lovely wheated high rye bourbon at a proof that blunts the sweetness of regular Makers.

I absolutely loved it and can't believe it was only $40. Mini review: It's like drinking liquid carmel candy (think Werther's Original) coated in vanilla and brown sugar. Very slight burn initially but it doesn't last long or impact the flavor profile in a negative way at all. The sweet taste lingers on the back of the mouth with no smokey aftertaste.

A little disappointed after tasting an earlier version but still quite good. Happy that they bottle this now in 1 liter instead of the previous 750 ml.
