About this bottle
Martell VSOP Aged in Red Barrels is made with used cognac barrels known as "futs roux" or red barrels due to the reddish tinge found on the wood. These barrels achieve this "futs roux" between 4-8 years of use. These were made from Troncais oak which were lightly toasted. It debuted in Asian markets in 2018 and it will replace the brand's Medallion VSOP version in all markets.

I enjoy cognac on occasion. I venture out but always return to Remy or Courvoisier. This is one of those ventures and I have to say I like it. Is it a new favorite? No, but it's an honorable mention. After a little air the aroma is there, fruity, oaky. Same price as Remy, I'll stick with Remy!!
Nose: Fruity, like plums and apricots, with a bit of vanilla. Palate: Smooth and fruity, with oak and subtle spice. Finish: Medium, with lingering fruit and a hint of wood.
Balanced and rich, not too old not too young, oaky and fruit in harmony, smooth and elegant but full and gutsy, a good sipping cognac!
Tastes like cherry medicine. Redeemed by using in hot toddy.
