About this bottle

Martin Miller's Gin was first released in 1999 and is distilled in England at the Langley Distillery. Though the botanicals are the same for the brand's Westbourne Strength version, the proportions differ. 10 botanicals are utilized with the spices and earthy botanicals distilled separately from the citrus peels. These two gins are blended together with a cucumber distillate added afterwards. The gin is brought down to 40% ABV with the addition of Icelandic water.

Nose: Floral citrus - lemon gelato, orange blossom water, mandarine juice. Juniper, but it's well in check. Clove, and some of the usual spicy and herbal notes including oregano or basil. Palate: Oily, thick and peppery - there's a much more prominent juniper note here than in the nose and some liquorice root and cassia bark for sure. Ginger? Cinnamon? A good measure of spice but less citrus than expected, and what is present is a little bitter and hard. There is some heat from the assorted spices. Finish: Medium. The hot spices gradually simmer down to a mild buzz. The nose is good, but not particularly interesting. The palate much the same. I always have the feeling when tasting gin that it is a much more "clustered" category of spirits than whisky. The vast majority, like this one, fall within a small range and there are only a few outliers that are either awful or really distinguished. I guess that's down to gin being an engineered product by its very nature, with little scope for magic to happen. It's all about finding a winning recipe and then consistently following it. I have no issues with this, but I wouldn't rave about it either. It's OK but hardly inspirational neat, and when diluted by anything it seems to disappear. It takes its place among scores of other "just on the good side of average" gins. I wouldn't turn it down but I wouldn't go out of my way to obtain it either. It works well in a classic G&T without any citrus added (a slice of lime or lemon is enough to obscure it) where it makes a crisp, fresh and refreshing drink. However at the asking price it's a little steep to recommend over some other very good gins that are available for the same money or less. "Average" : 79/100 (2.75 stars)

I bought this last month when I went to Columbia, SC to help my son clean out his dorm room as the Covid-19 virus shut down his school and he left all of the items he could not pack into his car. There is a very nice package store not very far from his dorm and I usually go there to see what they have when I visit him. They had Martin Millers on sale for $14 a bottle and I took a chance. This gin falls into the category of "Gins for people that do not like Gin". The nose is soft juniper and citrus notes. I actually went to their website and looked at the ingredients list and they have 3 different citrus peels which really come out if you sip this neat. The body neat is very nice and citrusy with a very little burn on my tongue, but there is a little bitterness caused by the peels. The finish is pleasant and smooth with a touch of burn and bitterness. Now for the bad news, this gin disappears in nearly every drink I have tried it in with the exception of Martinis and Gimlets. I made Gin and Tonics with several different ratios and tonics and none of them really tasted great. The gin completely disappeared in every single one. If someone does not like classic London Dry Gin then make them a drink with this and see what they say. For $14 this is a very good buy and the flavors are pleasant but for an everyday gin, this falls short for me. Enjoy.

A creamy gin, from England distilled in pot stills & shipped to Iceland, where it is mixed with Icelandic Spring water. It is flavored with Tuscan juniper, cassia bark, angelica, Florentine orris, coriander, Seville citrus peel, nutmeg, cinnamon & licorice root. It has an aromatic birth with notes of citrus, hints of coriander & cinnamon; while a full & creamy life adds notes of juniper & orange; that led to a long & warming cinnamon lovers' death. Excelente gin, combina muy bien con todo tipo de coctelería y sus notas se mantienen, aunque sea un coctel seco, dulce, amargo o ácido. Excellent gin, it combines very well with all types of cocktails and its notes are maintained, even if it is a dry, sweet, bitter or sour cocktail.

Floral nose with lots of juniper berries & citrus. Thick, slightly oily with alcohol burn at the end. Added ice & it was an improvement but the taste did not match the nose for me; definitely for mixing.

I had read about the cucumber notes so I definitely wanted to try it based off that. That's accurate for the most part. VERY cool and crisp, better chilled or in a G&T on the rocks but I've had better.
